Alright, here are some things you school owners need to know about the 1st of the year. You newbys out there take some notes, you old school guys & gals feel free to button hole this stuff as you see fit and put your 2 cents in. I probably need to hear some new ideas as well!
The beginning of the New Year is ideal to snag new students. Usually they have spent a few weeks drining, going to parties, eating a bunch of crap and staying up way too late. they are also going to take a look in the mirror or reflect on themselves as the New Year approaches and look to do something for themselves as an improvement. The statistics on obesity in the US are staggering and if you just take a look around you at the restaraunts, mall and other such people places you'll see what I'm talking about. Its shameful.
Make sure you have a built in fitness program in your martial arts class or design one there are lots of possiblities out there. I use a kickboxing program where we hit bags and do interval training with light weights, we do about 10 -15 rouds on the bags 2 - 4 sets of weights - jam out to some good classic rock and some decent modern stuff then I seek to kill them and myself in a 10 - 15 minute ab work out. Finish with a strech and clear them out. It seems the more I attempt to punish them the better they like (afterwards of course). If you don't feel qualified, there are numerous courses avaiable to you both on line and in class rooms to help you design a fitness program.
The days where the good old reverse punch in a white pair of pajamas is king are gone, sorry to tell you. Utilize the fitness trend that is going on to get people in - that is the key. Once you have them in, you have a potential student for your martial arts/CQC class.
Make sure you make your classes accessable to everyone. Women avoid most classes that have a male only instructor. Also most people avoid too much physical violence. Classes should gradually innoculate the person.
Anyway! Capitalize on the New Year. Offer new class times, courses - Prices! Credit Card access works well.
