There might be if it's the Chicago Tourist Board's "Welcome to Chicago" site :)

statistics on rape in Chi- 2005. 1200 reported- around 100 involved weapons, just a small percentage. Any thoughts?

Well, this doesn't specify WHO had the weapon, the victim or the rapist.

Historically however, there are indicators that criminals PREFER unarmed victims.  When Florida first introduced thier CCW, they saw an immediate and drastic drop in reported rapes in Dade county where rape had beomce epidemic. There was a very highly publicized program specifically for women carrying firearms.  When there were only about a dozen states with shall issue CCW, those states averaged 24% lower crime rates on specific crimes than the rest of the country.  While there are surely other factors, I don't think you can deny that one glaring difference had a substantial impact on those drops in crime.

As earlier stated, most rapes are done by persons who know thier intended victim.  What makes it really scarry it that the FBI estimates that only one in three sexual assualts ever gets reported.  If that holds true then you are talking about 3600 cases in Chicago.

And as we all know, there is not CCW in IL and there are many determents to firearms ownership places on the residenst of the Windy City.  But hey, Daley says that the police will protect everyone.....

The police will protect Daley, bit you. It is not the job of the police to protect you, it is their job to protect the rights of the State ( read your State's constitution) I have used a firearm in the defense of my family. My wife andmyself were out taking a walk one evening with our 6 pound dog, and I had noticed that the same car had driven past us 3 times. As we continued walking, i noticed that the car was coming down the street from in front of us. I felt that this was just not Kosher, and told my wife to take cover behind a truck in a driveway. As we got behind the truck, the car stopped and the person in the back seat pointed a handgun at us. I pulled my 45 commander from my fanny pack ( I know you guys love that) and blew the rear window out of the car. It was the only shot I had at them due to the tight angle. The car immediately left and we headed directly home. I called the police and they were at my home in a few minutes and filed a report. They arrested the individuals in the car later that evening, and all 3 had weapons related charges against them and 2 were curently on parole. None of them over the age of 23. The one who wasn't on parole is the one who waived the gun, which he had stolen in a home burglary earlier that day, but only had 2 rounds in the clip. I truly believe that the outcome would have been drastically different, had I not had a handgun.
All three individuals are currently serving long prison terms. The police told all three that  they were all lucky to be alive as I had every right here in the great State of Texas to shoot and kill all of them in defense of my family and myself. No charges were filed against me and they never even took possession of 45. In NY or Chicago, that little prick could have shot both myself and my wife, or who knows what. Any gun, even a Glock was the deciding factor.

Good example, Arnold.  I like this part the best.

I'll occaisionally throw bits out like this that are based on my experience, not my feelings. The reality of life is that we live in a violent world, and all of the gun laws in the world are not going to stop the criminal from doing what he or she wants to do. Prosecution of the criminal with the current laws that are in place will result in the removal of this element from society. That and lethal injection, the electric chair, gas chamber what ever. Let's hear it for the death penality as a deterrent to criminals.

Good for you Arnold!

I do realize that the police have no legal obligation to protect you, but certain politicians keep repeating the same old thing, that you don't need a gun because the police will protect you.  In Chicago they have made gun ownership difficult at best and carrying a handgun for protection, at least legally is impossible.  What always amazes me is the fact that the people of Chicago keep voting him in!
