i don't like the ideaof everybody being allowed to have a gun. Guns don't kill people, the opportunity kills them.if i'm allowed to have a gun and carry it arround i would certainly use in times of danger. the REAL problem is, that every redneck-psycho-hillbilly is allowed to have one, even if he is the dumbest guy you can find on earth.

Being a Texas boy I strongly believe in gunownership rights, I grew up that way. I also believe guns are way too easy for criminals and psychopaths to obtain. But to ban all guns would be ridiculous. it's like banning all pitbulls. I ve also owned 2 pitbulls in my life some of the best dogs I ever had, although I firmly believe too many criminals get these dogs and turn them into savages. Banning guns isn't the answer just like banning all pits isn't the answer either. Tougher ownership laws and penaltys are. Mi dos pesos.

The problem with this is......

   I'm personally capable of handling 95% of the situation without a gun.

       However, some folks are not physically capable of doing the same.
         
           How do you allow these people to defend themselves?



I would be in agreement that It would be appropriate if there were no bad guys.   Firearm technology was created because of the need of ordinary people to defend themselves against more powerful bad guys.

Bri Thai, I don't to hash over old ground, but guns in England have pretty much been banned, especailly handguns.  Yet the gun crime rate in England has increased.  How is banning them the answer when doing so has shown to increase gun crimes?  Criminals dont' seem to have any trouble at getting guns, even when they are banned, just like drug addicts don't have much trouble obtaining drugs.

Only the law abiding obey the law.  By definition a criminal will not and will ignore any gun ban if he wants to.  Punishment is what affects criminals while at the same time doesn't restrict the law abiding.

In addition to that our 2nd Amendment also intended to keep our own goverment at bay.  In truth human decency is the only thing that keeps an unarmed citizen population from becoming prey to a Saddam style dictatorship.  Do you realize that in the last 100 years that goverments have killed many, many times the number of people that criminals have?

Hey maybe we should ban goverments?

Talkin' 'bout crazy? Just this week someone in my neighborhood fired at a schoolbus full of kids. Don't know if the psycho dirtbag got caught or whether it was a pellet gun/live firearm. I saw 2 squad cars on the street during the day of the shooting as I took an alternate route to my home. And just last night, I just heard gunfire. I dove to the ground on my back inside the house as I had my pistol pointed at that direction just in case. I stayed there and waited for 1 min. until no more sounds are heard. Like I said, it's a jungle these days. You never know what might happen to you. And, if you are into religion, it's best to make peace with a higher power just in case you gonna meet in the afterlife.

In Austria only police and military are allowed to carry guns. If you are into hunting, you are allowed to carry a rifle (from your home to where you are going to hunt).
we have 400 deaths from guns per year (in these 400 deaths,  suicides are included), so i think banning guns (particularly pistols and revolvers) for the normal citizen is not a bad idea.
i DON'T EVER want to live in florida, where everybody is allowed (if he feels threatened!!!!!!) to draw his gun and shoot.
