CQC in feature films
« on: May 15, 2006, 09:53:42 AM »

I always try to keep an eye out for realistic use of deadly force in films, and I just watched an entertaining movie that I think others might enjoy.

The film is called "A history of violence", and the fight choreographer obviously is familiar with CQC. Within the main charaters action scenes, he uses "y hand" chops to the throat, arm wraps, neck breacks, throat stomps, and the most devestating palm heel strike ever put on film. Techniques that we all know work, shown in brutal effiency.

The only other CQC I've seen in films was in the end of "28 days later" where the main character takes the mount position on the bad guy and executes a deep double eye gouge.

I personally like Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels where they beat the hell out of a guy with a black Dildo.
It wasnt CQC but it was damn funny!

"Hardtimes" with Charles Bronson has always been a favorite of mine for nitty gritty film fighting.
Basic and limited, it was still a first for fight scenes that made the audience cringe.
Also I think its great that Hollywood is finally getting some sense of reality in the fight scenes.

Funny you mentioned that.  Vinny JOnes who plays one of the tough guys can probably do that in real life. He used to play for Queen Park Rangers soccer club, I think.  Talk about a psychopaths. I still have pics of him going for a header while grabbing his opponents' nuts in mid air.  It's nuts.   ;D

I saw A History of Violence on DVD last week, I was going to say somthing about it but you beat me to it Southernwarrior.

Dam good fight scenes, most of the techniques would work for real but still a lot of Hollywood mostly in the very last fight scene.

Some earlier movies with good H2H fight scenes are"Bad Day at Black Rock',"Malone",with Burt Reynolds and "The 9th Configuration"starring Stacey Keach. These are just a few that come to mind and are worth checking out.

Hey TegnerFan!

Are you enough of a Bruce Tegner Fan to know some background history on Tegner? I am interested in an article on Tegner for our CQC Magazine...

What about the fight scene at the end of lethal weapon. It was Gibson vs. Busey. Good fight.

I know some about Tegner and his self-defense methods.I had written to him back in the early 1980's and he was kind enough to answer.I always thought he had so much to offer to those interested in self-defense,but never got the respect he deserved!By the way,Tegner choreographed the fight scene in Bad Day at Black Rock between Spencer Tracy and Ernest Borgenine.Tegner also did the fight scenes for James Coburn in "Our man Flint",before Coburn met Bruce Lee.
