That film is a keeper.

Note how they got into each other's potential crossfire while surrounding him

You could just tell that a few rounds were not going to stop that guy.

Hey Bri...

I know you guys have people that go nuts with knives like this with some frequency...

Without any armed response units handy, what might some unarmed British police do with a knucklehead like this?

In a way, knowing from the "get-go," you don't have pistols to draw, the whole approach and positioning thing would have been quite different from the beginning, I think.

Is there any training game plan for such an event?

We have little training for the unarmed guys that would deal with this.  Even the TASER is only available to guys already on the armed teams.

If the guy is contained in a building we surround it by armed people and a negotiator bores him out.  There are tactics involving riot gear but, if it is contained, why send anyone other than the fully armed in, and then only if you have to.  No ones sending my people into that, I don't care who they are.

Alot depends on the situation.  When out in the open, with the situation still beyond containment, I know a few have been dogged, and a few run over by the car.  Most just get the snot beaten out of them by Samurai Style Bobbies who just go ape out of fear and adrenalin.

Occasionally one gets killed.

Many of the incidents are over before we get there though.

Man! Is it just me,or does this sound a lot like what the Marines faced back in the philippine
rebellion. The unstoppable guy armed with a knife.A real case of legend becoming life.
Also, it didnt seem like weapon caliber seemed to be a deciding factor here.Looks like they hit this guiy with carbine and handgun without much difference in effect.
Thanks,this is amazing viewing.

I guess that puts an end the adage

"Don't bring a knife to a gun fight!"  :P

There are lots of short flicks of this nature on the net. It is a real eye opener for those who completely underestimate the danger of a knife.

The wildest one I ever saw was on the news in the P.I. when I was there last and some group went Juramentado on the Army there, I believe they were Christians but they might of easily been Muslims, Im just not sure. The Army surrounded a house and one by one these guys came out and charged with only a bolo, They were shot down like dogs but the charge was trully amazing, It must have been 8 or 10 guys one after another. Funny enough it seems they got about 21 feet before they dropped from lead poisening!

Its hard for me to remember exactly because I was layed up in a hotel  drunk with some girls for days at a time back then and they watched the craziest shit on TV while I watched them, but theres no point in going into details about that.

Here in the states, the Taser is a great counter knfe stand-off tool...IF YOU HAVE ONE HANDY. Not all officers and shifts have them.

With an international lack of training in this common area/problem....this problem could actually make for a great Police Judo knife scenario session with sims guns and so forth....hmmm...

This is why police here in the states carry shotguns, riot gear and gas masks in their cruisers.  At least those serving in enlightened departments will have this equipment.  Of course in most cases they will have to wait until a Sergeant or above is on the scene and authorizes it to break out the proper equipment.  Tat reminds me of two storys that happened here in my old jurisdiction and will show you what to expect when a knife is used to threaten a life here in Illinois.  This is way south of Chicago and the ring counties of course.
Incident # 1: A mentally ill man threatens a police dog with a butcher knife.  He is promptly shot right between the eyes by a member of State Police tactical team thus curring his mental illness.  Incident # 2: Estranged father threatens his own baby son with knife to baby's throat while walking away from apartment complex where baby and wife (now seperated) live.  Locals call the police and they arrive with Sergeant in tow.  NOW authorised to you use deadly force patrolman makes headshot form twenty feet.  Divorce now final; baby is alright.

Wow.  That mentally ill guy must have been fast to corner a dog.

Perhaps they should re-name the rank of Sergeant to "Judge Dredd."  As long as they shout "I am the Law" they can shoot any disabled person to save a hound.

Please, please do not bring up the name Judge Dread!

The new Rocky movie is coming out this Christmas.

Sly is trying to make another Rambo!

If Sly googles Judge Dread and finds someone has mentioned the name...Oh NO! He may try to have a Dread sequel, or prequel to the sequel...

I heard the crew is getting geared up to film the new Rambo movie here in Thailand. Evidently the plot involves a secret mission into Bhurma to rescue some VIP.  I too dread more dread, A couple bonus episodes of The Wire would be great though.
