Anyone affiliated w/ a range?
« on: January 26, 2007, 04:43:26 PM »

Among my many projects, my business partner and I are in the beginning stages of putting together a business plan for an indoor range.  We think the idea would be a winner in our area.  I have just received the NRA's range source book.  It seems the word on the street is that the EPA is the biggest hurdle and in fact caused the closure of the last indoor range in our area.  So I am wondering if there are any folks here who have been or are involved in an indoor range operation.  I would love to pick your brain/ use you as a sounding board.
Hock, I hope this is an appropriate use of your forum.  Tell me if it is not. Thanks.

Loy,

There have been a tremendous number of ranges closed lately due to local pressure.....Do your research to see how many SURVIVE the local community pressure....depends on where you are located.

Looks like we have a lot to learn.  EPA seems daunting but we'll deal with it.  I am not sure what PPLS is?  Professor, what sorts of local opposition have you heard of?  I am in Illinois, which on one hand is not a gun friendly state due to the influence of Chicago.  On the other hand we have a fair amount of indoor ranges in our state and Illinois is the home of Springfield Armory, Armalite, Rock River, LMT, Les Baer Custom and other firearms manufacters.
Besides, how hard can dealing with all of these variables be?  Oh ya, if anyone has a couple million bucks laying around they would like to invest, let me know.  I keep wondering if I am dreaming big or dreaming stupid.  Only one way to find out.
