Let's get Started - The topics I'd like to cover.....
« on: January 05, 2005, 02:31:48 AM »

I ike information that covers all the main concerns for people so here is the basic list I'd like to start with and we'll move from there.  As we go along ladies and gents.  Please post your concerns and needs as we progress.  Some of these areas may not concrn some of you and some of you have a different way of doing them PLEASE add them as I want to learn as well.. I don't have all the answers but these have worked for us.

1. Planning & starting a business from Scratch
2.  Forming a corporation
3. Laying the training foundation
4. The Business of Teaching Kids (if you want I've got loads of good stuff here)
5. The Business of Teaching, Recruiting and HOLDING on to adults
6. Making changes
7. Communication
8. Professionalism
9. Presence & presentation skills
10. Advertising
11. Recruiting, Training & retaining staff & instructors

...and anything else you want to discuss!

Later thsi week I'll start on the first topic unless there issomewhere else ya'll like to start.

Look out!  Its gonna be a wild ride

PS - All the rules in Jeff Allen's General discussion forum apply here as well.  (he just says it better, being a professor and all.... ;D)

Hey Rawhide,
Great topic list.
What is your experience on having people sign the "I wont sue if I get hurt" form?

Not only in a training hall enviroment but at seminars and maybe even training a small group at forst in your backyard..

Ive heard that those really dont hold up if someone broke their baby finger and felt you should pay for it.

Is there maybe a website that has an example of how an airtight form should look?

With Respect,
Eric Ericksen

Eric:

Good question and the unfortunate answer is there is no airtight liability statement.  I had mine looked over by a lawyer and the one piece of advise he gave us was that there is always a way to get around the waiver.  The good thing, however is that it makes the signer aware of the potential problems in martial arts training and it can be a protectant against law suits.

I have found that being concerned at all times about your students' well being and constantly keeping tabs on whose who in the zoo and the proper pairing of partners greatly reduces the risks of injury and as you being the main target of a court date.

But as to your other question:  I have never had a problem with anyone signing the waiver, I make part of their student information so I have everything in one sheet.

Let me know if this answers you question.

When I have attended Dog Bros seminars, Mark Denny always films everybody agreeing "not to sue."  He follows this up with lots of legal jargon.  He used to study law, so maybe that's more air tight?

Cheers

Pretty much true,Joe.

I think knowing the law helps one out tremendously.  How to circumvent situations and such.

Me?  I have to hire such help and get a second mortgage to pay for it.
