I have the bokken made of the same material.  It does everything a bokken is supposed to do except for techniques where you use the foreward 1/3 to catch a person and throw him into other people.  It is way too flexible for that.  It is a bit flexible for other grappling but it will still work. 

The baston they sell is shorter and thicker than the bokken so it would be less flexible.  The added flexibility over rattan might make a pictos travel a little farther than it should, which may be good or bad depending on your intnent. ;D

I'm gonna pick one up next month and try it out.  I have had some of these types of sticks before and they are just not quite as good as rattan.  But, hopefully this one will be!
