how to teach children
« on: January 14, 2005, 06:19:34 PM »

Hi guy's,

My name is Isagani Abon from the Philippines. I just want to ask how do you guy's about how do you teach children classes. Well i'am a Guro of Rapido Realismo martial arts from the philippines, Rapido Realismo is a traditional blade based combat Arts with full contact training and teaching method and we just wanted to know how can we teach it to perpectly suit children. We are  afraid to teach it to 12 years old below because it will hurt them and maybe send a wrong message that hurting people is just ok. My master Henry espera have learn and been teaching traditional method which is "no pain, no gain, no learn" and also we teach it the same thing to adults. Presently a 10 y.o. kids join us,  i wanted to make it good to children without hurting the effectiveness of the System.

Thanks,
Guro Isagani Abon

Isangani,

Try first wrapping rattan stick with 1"inch foam insullation used for keeping water pipes warm -- I realize that this may be a little harder to aquire locally....otherwise, wrap towel, socks, etc.

Now go 1/2 speed.   This is a good start from the traditional and can be slowly removed as they gain confidence......

Hi Isagani,

Welcome to the forum! Teaching children can be challenging, but also very rewarding. If you use PVC plastic tubing, you can cut the tubes to the length that you like for both stick and blade training.  I think very simple movements with the single stick and double sticks will provide excellent eye/hand cooordination for them.  What kind of empty hand applications do you have?  Also if you have a grappling section you can emphasize rolling/falling/ grappling/ takedowns.

Tell us more about your Rapido Realismo system.  Also what got you involved in the martial arts?

Stay in touch with us!
