nice reaction.  He slammed him pretty hard, looked like enough to loosen his grip and buy a split second for help to arrive.  I guess the cuffs should have been tighter, so it took his hands longer to get feeling back.   ;)

Question, how did he get all the way into there custody block without a basic "pat down"? Don't want to Monday morning quarterback, but someone seems to have really dropped the ball.
My 2 cents

Nice example of the effectiveness of the deliberate C-clamp and grabbing the weapon bearing limb. Interesting to see how easy the knife was disarmed with just a little wrestling.

Weird video, The suspect must have not had any kind of a search prior to to his being transported. I cant imagine this happening in the United States.

I cant understand the conversation as Its muffled and English English. It sounds like they mention Samurai Sword a couple times. Was this guy arrested for carrying a Samurai Sword? Overall its amazing how concealable a Bayonet is, one can never be to careful.

What? A human catching a weapon-bearing limb? Isn't that supposessed to be impossible - so says many MAs  ;D

But WHY are we searching this guy after his handcuffs are removed? See the stuff hauled out of his pockets? THAT's a big-assed, fixed blade knife. Nobody felt that during the arrest process?

and another point - all fighting is situational and positional. Not the stand-off face to face, fighting stance vs. fighting stance
myth of the duel stuff ever so over-practiced and over-done

I can't really defend the lack of a thorough search before this point.  I would never make this mistake.

But most British cops come across armed criminals so comparitively rarely that they do get a little negligent.

No excuse, but still a pertinent point.

Perhaps they are in the habit of searching at the book-in desk, being a restricted area etc?  I would have patted him down at point of arrest and I think the officer may have.  He refers to the perp having stuff in his pockets so at some stage he must have felt or suspected something.  Still, it would have been better to search him while he was handcuffed!

The grab the knife arm method was pretty much all he had as options given the restricted area.  I think if MA instructors insist you can;t grab the weapon hand/arm they are limiting themselves to the stand-off/duel scenario as well as believing every attacker will be thinking cool and rational stragey type thoughts like they do every time they run the scenario in their heads.

Note the knife came out at 0:03:12 into the video, the officer had the arm grabbed by 0:03:13 and the subject was disarmed and under control by 0:03:16. (Under control includes the big cop sitting on the perp's head after he we went over the desk to his mates assistance, hehehehehehehe)  So less than 4 seconds, not bad.  The initial presenting and reacting was a 1 second sequence. Like they say, it all happened so fast!
