CQC amd PAC v Others and Question?
« on: January 23, 2005, 10:09:22 AM »

Hi Group,

This is my first post to this forum. I would like to say I am glad to be back training in CQC/PAC. I started about three years ago and about a year and a half ago I had a severe shoulder injury. I was suppose to get it operated on to remove the end of my collar bone but started doing light exerciseswith Russian Kettlebells. Needless to say I am almost 100% healed due to the kettlebel workout. So I rejoined my Diato Ryu Aiki Jujutsu class again. I also started to look for a combat defense system since thereare no instructors that are close to my location. So I checked out the Crav Maga stuff and wasn't impressed then I went to several FIGHT classes which is similar to Crav Maga. I do not want to knock these systems because there is some good to them but not for me. I am not full circle and will start training in the CQC again (got hold of my old instructor) but I want to add the PAC to my training. I will still study the Jujutsu along with Hocks system.

I have one question maybe some one could answer. I download Training Mission One manual and I have the old tapes Unarmed Combatives Study Progression 1-4 and the SDMS tapes. Are these relevant to TM1 -4. I do want to spend another 120 dollars if the tapes corrispond to Training mission 1-4. I also bought the first PAC DVD. Can anyone assit me with answer? And is there a logical progression to my training?

Thanks
Mike R.

I can't really give you advice which of the materials is sbest for you, but I can tell you what I did. I had Unarmed 1-3, the Journeyman Knife tape, and Solo Impack Skills & Mastery. I went ahead and bought Unarmed 4-6 for quick reference (I teach karate and a little Hakkoryu jujitsu (derived from Aiki). Then I decided to bit the bullet - I'm attending the CQCG camps and seminars and buying the new stuff from Hock as it comes out. Sure there is duplication, but it's harder to find a specific drill or what have you, on DVD than on the old tapes. The DVDs contain each level's material for Unarmed, Stick, Knive, and Gun. All useful (even for us civilians), but it is 3 to 4 times the material for each level as it covers the whole ball of wax.  Anyway, that's my thinking.

Thanks and I look forward to meeting you one day at one of the seminars. Hock replied to me onthe duplicate post. I will discuss the kettlebells in a new subject.
