I throw in my two cents and a story. The story first. I took our beagle "Roo" to the vets office for his checkup and to get his shots updated. One of the "warnings" provided to all beagle owners is to watch their weight due to their nose and desire to skarf up anything on their plate (or your plate). It's the truth. Roo has a nose to beat all noses and a hankering for a snack. My wife and I are very strict with his diet to try to keep him into some semblance of good health.
Roo and I were in the room when the doctor walked in and began his check up. Of course, the conversation - at my prompting came back to his weight. The doctor looked knowingly at me and paused for a moment. "There are three of us in the room that could stand to lose a few pounds, however, none are in bad shape. I don't think either of us are in a position to talk about him being two pounds overweight." My reply: "Well said."
my .02: I think I've finally figured out this diet thing. There is not example of a starving person that's fat. We all eat too much and too much of the same thing - and most of it bad...
The diet guru's directions: Eat good food more often in lesser quantities and speed up your metabolisim.
Before you read any further....It's mine....I haven't published the book yet...but, I've figured it out:
Eat less food. Eat less often. Everytime I speed up my metabolism, my grocery bills go up as I eat more food to maintain or slowly decrease my weight. Slow down my metabolism, eat the right foods, eat less of them -- guess what - I lose weight.
Everytime I start eating more.....guess what? - I gain weight. Again: I've never met a starving fat person.

I'm passing this secret on to all the members of the list...just don't tell anybody else.
