Weight Loss
« on: January 31, 2005, 03:32:27 AM »

I just want to say out to any one who is with me in losing some small pounds.

I went from 230 lbs to 210 lbs in 3 months.

The only thing I did was a change of diet and 1/2 hour of excersize a day.
I feel good and my eating habits and mind has changed. It feels good to get close to my goal.

This is what I did.

No soda or coke or pepsi whats so ever. No candy. (I have a sweet tooth)

I replaced my pastas with brown rice pasta,
I replaced my potatoes with sweet potatoes and more vegtables.

More water each day. 7 glasses
If you can drive through it then its not good for you.
SO I avoided any fast food what so ever.

I exchanged my Simple carbohydrates for complex. They are digested quickly. Many simple carbohydrates contain refined sugars and few essential vitamins and minerals. Examples include fruits, fruit juice, milk, yogurt, honey, molasses, maple syrup and sugar.

My Complex carbohydrates take longer to digest and are usually packed with fiber, vitamins and minerals. Examples are vegetables, grain breads, cereals, legumes and brown rice pasta. I do have yogurt once and a while.

My work out
1/2 hour some times 45 mins to an hour each day.
Strength training and cardio. Combo Jump rope and Bodyweight Excersizes

I changed the way I eat. Carbs and sugars for breakfast and lunch. Protein (beef, chicken or fish) and veggies at night. My weight when I graduated was 145. By age 28 200lbs. The difference. Mom made good healthy meals when I was a kid. No fast food. No soda for dinner. Living on my own I ate alot of pizza, fast food and subs. I actually had a pizza place send me a christmas card one year!
Changing to this way of eating I feel better and have lost some weight.
My thinking is this. You need energy in the morning and afternoon (carbs and sugar's). In the evenings and at night you need less energy (lower the carbs and sugars). At rest (sleep) the body starts repairing and prepairing the body for the next day. It needs proteins, vitamins, minerals etc. ( from dinner) to repair the muscles and organs. It also needs some energy. If there are no carbs or sugars available in your digestive or blood system (left out of dinner) it's got to get it from some where. Your fat cells?  :)
Let me know what you think.

I throw in my two cents and a story.    The story first.   I took our beagle "Roo" to the vets office for his checkup and to get his shots updated.   One of the "warnings" provided to all beagle owners is to watch their weight due to their nose and desire to skarf up anything on their plate (or your plate).   It's the truth.   Roo has a nose to beat all noses and a hankering for a snack.   My wife and I are very strict with his diet to try to keep him into some semblance of good health.

Roo and I were in the room when the doctor walked in and began his check up.  Of course, the conversation - at my prompting came back to his weight.     The doctor looked knowingly at me and paused for a moment.   "There are three of us in the room that could stand to lose a few pounds, however, none are in bad shape.   I don't think either of us are in a position to talk about him being two pounds overweight."   My reply: "Well said."

my .02:  I think I've finally figured out this diet thing.   There is not example of a starving person that's fat.   We all eat too much and too much of the same thing - and most of it bad...

The diet guru's directions:  Eat good food more often in lesser quantities and speed up your metabolisim.

Before you read any further....It's mine....I haven't published the book yet...but, I've figured it out:

Eat less food.   Eat less often.      Everytime I speed up my metabolism, my grocery bills go up as I eat more food to maintain or slowly decrease my weight.   Slow down my metabolism, eat the right foods, eat less of them -- guess what - I lose weight.

Everytime I start eating more.....guess what?  - I gain weight.   Again:  I've never met a starving fat person.  ;)

I'm passing this secret on to all the members of the list...just don't tell anybody else.

The caveman was never over weight. Because he had to fight for food.
Today human beings eat where ever food is abundant. Its in our human nature to eat where food is abundant. So we have become aware and know the limits. My mentality looks at foods that are bad for me. Then I ask the question "what can I replace this with thats healthy"?

Some are aware of their health, others are aware of their local burger king.
You have a 2 choices, the pain of working out or the pain of looking at yourself in the mirror and not enjoying what you see. Wich one is worse? I have a sleeping disorder that slows my metabollism down. I excersize like nuts and ate well and Im doing just fine.

In  essence everything we do is in response to pain or pleasure. Eating organic foods for me was a pain in the begining. Then I told my self if its good for me, then the satisfaction exists.
So eating good food is pleasure. THe pleasure of seeing myself in the mirror and being happy and content.

DAMN I FEEL GOOD! Wouldnt trade my old eating habits for anything. Change is all mental,
with out the mental change the body would never follow.

i will add my .02

i lost 10 pounds..and i was suprised! All i did was cut out my powdered sugar doughnuts and coke.. I was eating a bag a day ( about 20 or so ) and more than a 2 liter of coke.. I had to have something to wash down the doughnuts for breakfast and the lunch i had and the thirst i had afterwards ;D

so i finally decided to really eat better using the body for life that i started before i blew my knee out a couple of years ago ( yes, i stopped everything to heal the knee and never looked back..now i just move alot slower )  the website in case anyone is interested is www.bodyforlife.com
it is the best thing that works for me..eating many small meals a day and i stay full..so alot of food and little time in the gym.. Sign me up !!!! :)

anyway, i still have more muscle to add on and fat to take off..so i will post here again when i get better results

My turn to put in my 2 cents. Those of you who said to eat less need to add a fact stop eating foods with sugar chemicals. The most popular is high fructose corn syrup and dextrose, etc. and many other names for fake sugar. Also look for food that will increrase your metobilism. And if you really want to kick your fat burning up a notch order a couple of kettlebells and and start swing yourself thin. Trust me it works and you can bring your gym anywhere so there are no excuses.

Proven weight loss method!
Lose twenty pounds in 21 days or less!

1.   Don’t eat at Fudrucker’s
2.   If you are coaxed into going, don’t eat the 1 pounder, eat the ¼ pounder
3.   Whatever you do, don’t train in Sayoc Kali- way too many carbs!

Hope this helps

I'm currwently losing at the rate of slightly more half a pound a day.  It is early days yet though, but 10lbs have gone in the just over the first two weeks.

But weight is always easiest off in the first few weeks.  I'll let you know in April whether the method I am using is still doing the job and, of course, what that method is.

But I can say this.  It is the easiest method I have ever come across, and has released me from my craving for excess food 100%.
