Well, typical, people too afraid to get hurt themselves.  A straight kick head on to the guys head would have finished this bad guy off. 

I think shock in witnessing such a thing can cause people to stand back and watch in horror.  I know most of us couldn't live with ourselves if we did that, being trained in CQC.

The Bystander Effect strikes again.  It's been replicated time and time again.  The more people there are around, the less likely any one person will decide to intervene.  I think it's been demonstrated so many times now it's practically FACT.  Not that it can't go otherwise, it simply usually does not.  Shameful, but true.
