Shame.  I HATE seeing officers in the obits, especially females.

Got a girl about the same age who is applying to be a cop - very sweet but I think she's going to be in over her head.  Doesn't have a street smart attitude and midset.  She's going to have problems if she is a confrontation.  So I'm working on her - hope she doesn't get a bad street beat!

As every cop and cop trainer knows, unfortunately most cops that are killed in the line of duty are killed with their own duty weapon.  Thats why I work weapon retention with my recruits big time.  The last class I taught, there was a 130 lb female recruit training with a 250ish male recruit, and when I ran them through securing the weapon while it is still in the holster, she was able to get the weapon out of this guy's holster even though he knew what she was going to try to do and had ample opportunity to clamp down on it.  It was a very valuable teaching moment for all the recruits in the class and an eye opener for the larger guys when they saw that this 130 lb "girl" would have killed the 250 officer if it had been for real.  Never underestimate your suspects...

gr-best thing to do is work on her survival mindset, but without her becoming too arrogant.  Download some police use-of-force videos from youtube, or better yet blutube on policeone.com, and do "what would you do if that was you" drills with her. That will give her a big step in the right direction.

One thing that never gets trained is sticking your fingers in the gun-takers eyes.
Severely. Since this simple and effective solution is NEVER really trained, or even simulated with eye protection as a mandate-solution, it never loads up into the officer's muscle memory, and instead all the gun rentention sessions turn into exercises of little "lock elbow down/wrestling matches" of unrealism.

Plus Tte trainer never unloads on the officer as they really would in the street, the officer never gets taught and gets to practice the really fast, effective. life-saving moves.

About two months ago one of our guys/students in California was jumped by a bigger guy, taken down on his back and the bad guy when for the pistol. Our guy, no physical match,  rammed his fingers into the eyes and knocked him stumbling off.
