Prioritize your training.
« on: September 29, 2004, 04:41:01 AM »

The 80/20 Rule.
The 80/20 Rule was discovered or observed by Vilfredo Pareto an Italian economist in 1897.
It simply states that 80% of your results come from 20% of your activity.
So 80% of our activity only produces 20% of the results.
What does this have to do with training?
Everything.
Apply the Pareto Principle to your training.
We should be spending the the majority of our training time on the techniques that produce the greatest results.
I.e.... Eye jabs, Groin shots, Throat shots etc.
80% of our time should be spent on the 20% that produce the greatest results
While on the other hand we should be spending the minority of our time on the techniques which produce less results.
I.e..... Spinning back kick, Flying arm bar etc.
20% of our time should be spent on the 80% that produce less results
The bottom line is don't confuse being busy with being productive.
Just something to think about.

Jimbo Its Mario

Another way of looking at this without 20% is:

80% of your expectation controls your motivation!

If you expect to lose against a larger fighter, you have come to the arena with emotional baggage.
Your beliefs control and colors all of your actions in and out of a fight.

Mentally on a different similar note.
The acceptance that a confrontation is happening is important. By accepting it you go in to action quicker. Because you make a neuro-muscular connection (You give your body permission). The mind controls the body.
If you sit their saying to yourself in your mind "I cant beleive that guy hit me"  Then ultimately you have not accepted that it has happened. The shock sets in. Leaving you open.  :)
