Superman Punch
« on: June 15, 2008, 10:04:54 PM »

Has anyone experimented with this tool?  I've been working on it, but substituting an overhand hammerfist in place of the cross.  It's got some teeth to it, but a little weird to get used to.

Try it like this:

Throw a rear leg kick. Now look at your opponent's leg and raise your leg as if to throw another kick. Then Whammo! Throw the Superman Punch.

Works all the time.

Whammo? I believe the correct term is "Kablamo" Chap 3, Under "Terms and Phrases" Super Secret Book of Secrets
HTFU and do your required reading.

One of my sparring partners gets me with this from time to time (more often than I'd like, but that's another story).

I personally hate the technique.  It flies in the face of everything I've learned about punching.  Its counter intuitive enough that I don't do it.

However, here's to my sparring partner for making it work.

I understand that it originates from Thai Boxing- they call it The Cobra Punch.  Is Snake covering this technique on his series?

We use it all the time in thai and mma, fake the right kick and as you are pulling it back use your momentum and deliver the right punch, works great

I believe a lot of people do it off of a leg check.

Has anyone tried substituting the cross for an overhead hammer fist?  I find this application more adaptable for the street.

Yes...but it tends to telegraph the strike. A Palm Strike or Tiger Claw is much better option.

All- I found a demo of the superman punch on YouTube-i typed in Philipina superman punch and it  came up-demo showed using it off a front kick and as leg comes back the punch is thrown-instructor stated that it is really not for beginners plus if it is not done quickly you may  get kicked by the opponent-he also showed how it can be used by as it is thrown it comes down to the face and not straight forward. Joe- the hammerfist sounds good--whitewolf (el  lobo  blanco)
