"Net-Nerdy"
« on: June 28, 2008, 11:00:29 PM »

Nick, and anyone else. 'Net-nerdy is my term for anyone- me included - who hangs out on an internet forum, no offence intended, maybe I should have added a smiley  :)....Be honest, if, like me, someone spends (relatively) a little too much time reading the shennanigans, or, joining in the shennanigans on  forums then you should be a little self deprocating, and deserve a 'nick-name', no?

On the same subject, and, using the same title of the thread "Is this typical"...

Forums appear to all things to all men (and women  ;)). But, is it reasonable to expect some level of 'respect' when participating as a member, or is it gloves off and anything goes? I write this in the knowledge that I have seen first hand, and, been instrumental in, some very heavy piss-taking and provocation.

Personally, I don't take anything personally, unless it's an outright insult -it is far too easy to get upset, angry or feel vengeful about something that (more often than not) is written by an 'anonymous' hand.

The problem, as ever, is recognising humour, wit, irony and sarcasm in the written word - maybe there are icons/smileys for them? ???

However, much as I enjoy reading, and occasionally participating on the few forums I'm not banned from  ;) I see more and more nepotism, cronyism and keyboard tough-guys (Simonlau my current favourite), none of which bother me in the least. But somehow I cant seem to switch off to a lot of the double-standards and cynicism.. sometimes even from the so-called moderators  ;)

Not (so far  ;)) on here I might add.

I am pretty much anything goes because it brings out a lot of debate.

I too am not a believer in any sacred cows...all of them...religion, poltics, martial arts, etc. I am skeptic. I am so skeptical, I am skeptical of my skepticism.

I think this leads to the real truth of things and that truth creates the foundation for real, far-recahing advancements or...(gulp) the further evolution of the human race.

I think reasonable questioning brings out some good points.

Personally I learn a  lot from this forum-one has to  read some of the posts 2-3 times to  figure out what the hell they are talking about but once you catch  on then you  learn.
Sense I am not in the martial arts scene evey day as many here are I attempt to pick out what will help me and store it away in the brain housing group till needed.

Only thing that does bother me is when someone is cyber abusing someone else-sense we are just typing our thoughts to send out we should attempt to look at the picture through the others persons eyes-might learn  something that way

Hope that makes sense-whitewolf (el  lobo blanco)

It may be semantics for some.

I'm more interested in Facts. The 'real truth' is always subjective, facts are indisputable.

I'm also a skeptic - very skeptical of other peoples 'truth'.

Reasonable questioning? As the old saying goes:

A wise man will learn more from a foolish question, than a fool will learn from a wise anwer

It is semantics, I'm sure..  :)

I don't dispute that information may be misleading or blatantly wrong. But facts are exactly that, facts: verifyable from experience or observation.

Having all available facts allows (me) to make a judgement, subsequently creating my version of the truth.

One amusing reference to using facts came from a German football coach when asked by the media how he thought the game went:

"The ball was round and the game lasted for 90 minutes"  :)

As an 'exercise', what are the 'facts' relating to unarmed combat?  ;)

I'm only interested if they serve good beer and the steak in done to my liking. What do you mean this isn't Outback Steak House? Then who the hell is Uncle Nicky with the crappy accent? And who was inner spiritual warrior? And where the hell is Kentbob? Ah, there's my green pills and cherished Saint Arnold. Things will be better soon.
