Man On Fire

Joe Hubbard:
Has anyone seen the movie Man On Fire with Denzel Washington?  It is a story about the kidnappings in Latin America.  Denzel plays the part of an ex-Marine turned assassin for the DEA/CIA in South America who when becomes a civilian turns into a drunk.  Through a friend he gets a body-guarding gig looking after a prominent businessman’s daughter.  Well, the daughter gets kidnapped and Denzel goes on a killing spree to seek revenge.  There are some cool scenes.  In one scene Denzel captures one of the kidnappers and tortures him by taping his fingers to the steering wheel of the car.  One by one he cuts off a finger and to stop the bleeding he uses the car cigarette lighter- ouchhh!  The whole film raises many issues between good and evil and brings home the idea that somebody has to do the dirty work.  As Denzel’s character John W. Creasy says, “Revenge is best served up as a cold meal.”

P.S.  At the end of the film it was suggested that Denzel’s character was a real person.  Does anybody know the real story about this guy?

bcorey:
Saw it also, and loved it.  Bought it as soon as it came out on DVD.  In particular, I cheered during that scene, as well as the one where the supposed "anti-kidnapping chief of police" is caught by Creasy and given an explosive suppository.  That'll get ya talking.

Also, you know a movie is good when there is a monologue with Christopher Walken in it!   ;)

misshinryu:

This is a remake of the Scott Glenn movie (a cult and also a sleeper) from way back when. I guess most folks know that by now. I have never heard if it was based on any real event or person.

It was interesting....and well...it ain't no date movie.
