Man On Fire
Nick Hughes:
It, and the Scott Glenn version irked me to no end.
You guys should read the book by AJ Quinnel. (He's written a trilogy about Creasy..who doesn't die in the book BTW and several others...all good. His name is a pseudonym..never have been able to figure out who he is for real).
Anyway, I digress, the book is about an ex-French Foreign Legionnaire (now you know why I'm vexed :)) who gets the gig looking after an Italian magnate's daughter. They hire him to lower their insurance premium believing him to be a washed up nobody. They have no idea he was one of the Legion's best who recently quit and has turned to the bottle. The daughter gets kidnapped and dies choking on her own vomit while being raped by the kidnappers.
Creasy is wounded but survives...heads out to Malta to whip himself back in to the best fighting shape of his life and then goes hunting. He captures low level mafiosa and tortures them into revealing the whereabouts of the next up the chain. It culminates in a huge fight in the Capo's villa on a hilltop. Creasy skydives in and takes them on in a battle royale.
Everytime Hollywood tries it they have to make the hero ex CIA (boring...been done to death) and they screw up major plot lines like the girl dying and Creasy living instead of it being the other way round.
Do yourselves a favour and read the book.
PS: I'd love to know who Quinnel really is because his stuff on the Legion is 100% accurate. Details about uniforms, cities and wars they fought in etc.

What's the name of the book?
Nick Hughes:
Believe it or not it's called "Man On Fire." Imagine that ;D
You can look it up on Amazon under the title or by the author AJ Quinnel. He's actually done other books other than the Creasy trilogy. If you like adventure/clancy type of stuff you'll love them.

As I state to my doc students: "Yes, there is such a thing as a stupid question." :-[
Nick Hughes:
Yep, it's the one you don't ask.
