Well, I finally had a chance to shoot at a thousand yards. This was the first chance that I had an opportunity (and I was lucky to have a good teacher).
What a blast!!! I learned a lot and found a new appreciation for long range combatives.
As we were going to the 1000 yard range, the teacher (Bach) picked up some clay pigeons from another bay and drove them down the range. I never expected to be asked to hit one...
Yep, I shot a 4" clay pigeons on the berm at a 1000 yards....

168 grn., .308 Black Hills. I even have pictures and witnesses for you doubters...

It took a total of five shots, but I was using a borrowed gun.
We then shot at 900, 800, 600 and 400 yards. It's amazing how close the targets are at 400 yards after shooting at a 1000, I was able to pick off clay pigeons (at will) at 400 yards.
A 1000 yards was an interesting experience in a much different combat distance. The sniper is a truly under-appreciated asset.
