SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL-that shows that traditional karate type strikes are still around.
Glad to see that . WW (ELB)

Traditional Karate strike?  From what I understand the spinning motion added to strikes and kicks came in the competitive days once the arts became popular in the west.  Might be wrong, but I'm not sure there were many Okinawans spinning around like that.

I can safely say that a spinning back fist was not in a lot of "original" school karate, but rather later in sport-karate fighting.

In the 1970s we did spinning back fists in Parker Kenpo scenarios and kata, so it could be deceiving, but real "origins" speaking? I think you are right. Have to really think about it. I would bet its in some old Chinese systems.

Looking at this film makes me think about not just that official, "two-top" knuckle spinning back fist, but a spinning forearm strike too. What a shot that is and how it can be developed in the chaos of trying to get away and even in multiple opponents. I have a turning sucker punch in my outlines in the sucker punch module.

I have seen MA fight films of people being knocked completely upside down by these shots.

If you don't train them, you don't see them and you can be surprised by them.
