What, no one slashes with a knife in the UK?

You poor bastards.  When y'all get to hell in your handbasket, let us know what we can expect, as I suspect we'll soon follow suit.

Wow,
People have been stabbed with many objects.  Needle nose Pliers, screw drivers, pencils, and even blunt objects.  That blade may not look like it'll stab, but I'm pretty certain that if i rammed that thing into your gut, it's gonna stab you, and you're gonna bleed.  It's silly to think that you can't stab something with it, just because it's got a roundish nose.  It's a solid piece of rigid steel, and just like getting cut from a piece of angle iron, it's still gonna hurt if wielded maliciously.  When people start getting stabbed with them, then the silliness will turn to what?  a knife made out of sugar?  cut once, and throw away?  The depth of the fear in the English lawmaking centers is to the point where they indeed need to be overthrown on stupidity and ridiculousness alone!

Yeah, it’s another dumb idea. We all know that pretty much anything can be used, or adapted to be used as a weapon. I was in South Africa in 2005 and one of the most popular weapons was a sharpened bicycle spoke.

But before you all start pointing and laughing at us Brits, isn’t there some proposal to reclassify switch blades in the US, that would out law almost every modern folding knife?  You might have stricter knife laws than us before long!

It is technically a customs "interpretation" of an existing law.  To ban things, the fedgov does not need to pass new laws, all they need to do is "reinterpret" existing laws so that they suit their wishes.

What it does is classify assisted openers as "switchblades" for import purposes, but the wording could be interpreted to mean almost anything, and it could be used within the US.  On example would be a state that bans switchblades using this new "interpretation" to ban knives that are currently legal in that state.

If DC and England had it their way, we'd all live in padded-walled houses, with no pointy or rigid objects, forced to feed with disposable plastic sporks in hand.

I can see it now...ma'am you need to hand over all your culinary knives, they may be used to harm someone.  Harm what, my prime rib, pork roast, turkey and spare ribs?  How would you not use the tip of a knife while making food anyway...guess they'll show you guys that in the re-education programs?

Again, there is no way they can enforce all these lame laws here in US, let alone more knife bans.  Right now, police departments are handing out pink slips here in CA.  Enforcement gets down to you and me at the end of the day.

They could join up with PETA types and ban meat.

Best improvised stabbing weapon of all time, the screwdriver.  Inconspicuous, abundant and deadly. Look out construction industry, you're next!
