Great stuff, Hock! You have wrote a masterpiece. There is no book that has more comprehensive detail on knife fighting such as this one. As a matter of fact, it kept me busy when I was waiting all day at a hospital as I took my buddy/co-worker for a procedure. I was totally engrossed in your book all day and not yet even finished (lol). Great war stories too as well as old manuals including the ones from my old USMC LINE manual.

Hock's book is the THEE best knife book EVER.  The Forward is sobering and shows he knows from experience what knife fighting is and is not.

First Paragraph goes like this....
"Knife fighting is not an art.  Or a hobby.  Or an interest.  It isn't fun.  Nor is a bullet to the brain or a broken leg with an exposed, splintered bone through the flesh.  If you think it is, then you need your head examined or a real dose of reality experience"

From there, it just keeps getting better and better.  Stories are awesome, research and "how to" knowledge blows away the knife experts I've ever been exposed to.

Thanks Hock!

Hock's knife combatives also fills out and addresses something that is missing in most knife programs, fighting with a knife when on the ground or other uncomfortable positions.

THE BOOK LOOKS GREAT. JUST WHAT I NEED FOR MY LIBRARY, AS I AM JUST GETTING INTO KNIFE DEFENSIVE MEASURES. THE PRICE SEEMS REASONABLE ALSO, BUT UNFORTUNATELY THINGS HERE AT HOME ARE TIGHT.  HOPEFULLY SOON I CAN AFFORD TO GET A COPY. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

 Hey Hoch & Everyone:

The book arrived today.............I think you out-did yourself on this one.  I used to nag you about re-publishing the old Knife Fighting Encyclopedia, well...you don't need to do that.  This is just a great course and falls into the category of 'Professional' material for those whose livelyhood takes them into the world of combatives. There is just not any foolishness in this one at all.  The introduction really makes one think and put this 'knife fight' stuff in the right perspective.  The real-world historical examples are an espacially interesting aspect that everyone needs to read.  Replacing the ole Angles of Attack with the clock system is something that will have more standard use worldwide, particularly with the military.  Putting this book in a spiral binder is really usefull when you take this book to the training hall. It allows you to lay it flat and work directly from the page.  Indeed this has been a long time in coming. These days I spend a lot of time in the 'Martial Art' & 'Historical' aspect and the associated lack of reality that tends to exist there.  That said it is very comforting to know that I've got this
'Dose of Reality' on hand should I ever have to go back to or teach any of the 'Professional' aspects.  Thanks so much for writing this book. I'll have your copy of my Staff Book on the way in a couple of days.

All My Best

I bought the book a few weeks ago, and to be honest I didn't know what to expect.  I have an extensive martial arts library and, frankly, the vast majority is useless garbage.  I have been conditioned by the subpar norm to be very skeptical and to expect to be disappointed.  This manual is an exception, to say the least.  Without a doubt the most valuable and practical book on the subject I have ever seen.  A generally adroit and fit person without martial experience can actually learn something applicable from nothing but this manual and a willing training partner.  I got the first DVDs as well, and will buy the rest of them ASAP.

I teach traditional Chinese martial arts and also generic self defense classes at various local parks & rec and community centers.  Many of the attendees have asked for knife instruction, but I've had a difficult time making the traditional material relevant to modern situations (not to mention the giant knives!).  I will certainly be attending seminars and seeking instructorship, as this material is exactly what the soldiers, police officers, and little old ladies in my classes need.
