« on: August 04, 2009, 03:18:27 PM »

Could it be???

One of the big MMA/UFC guys talking about (and supporting) reality training with guns, and gun rights?  Hock, you will love this...

I was rather surprised to hear such well thought out ideas on the subject coming from a UFC fighter.  I've gotten so use to the testosterone laden dribble that comes out of a lot of these guys mouths.  Anyway, the subject was obviously something that Frank Mir had given some thought to, and saw the value in the gun training - especially liked the emphasis on training outside of the shooting range.  Maybe he's been to one of Hock's seminars???  ;)

I've read that Mir has a CCW permit in his home state and carries regularly.  He supposedly shocked people during the pre-fight press conference of UFC 100, when he and Lesner stood up for a pose, and Mir took his shirt off and had a handgun and knife in his belt.  (I have not seen this so I cannot confirm...)

It is refreshing to hear this from a higher level MMA competitor for a change.

Another MMA fighter, Brandon Vera, stated in an interview that he was also considering CCW after a home invasion that took place at his instructor's house where the perp got disarmed by both of them. And I don't blame Mir for carrying since Las Vegas is more of a cesspool nowadays with Crips and Bloods collaborating to do anything to make money. I liked his points, well said. He sounds like a pro-self defense guy. But I do hope he does not train using a real gun on his partner.
