V? is Back?
« on: October 28, 2009, 10:59:19 AM »

So they are bringing V back from the dead?

http://abc.go.com/shows/v

I guess TV reserected Battlestar Galacta, so they thinkn they can pump V up? If it were on the SFY-FI cable channel I would have more hope.

I wouldn't watch it if it was on Scy-fy.  That channel has made so many poor decisions in programming over the past few years that I'm done with it.  Their attempted series of Flash Gordon was absolutely horrible.  So canned...

They canceled a legitimately excellent series called Firefly.  A very well thought out and unassuming show after the first season - what a waste.  It could have been one of their flagship programs... It had truly developed and developing characters with identifiable issues and the actors played them extremely well... Oh well I guess we'll see upteen versions of Stargate and Battlestar (which started out brilliantly, I might add.)  It seems to have to degenerated to some screwed up mind game that never ends - lost interest as there seemed no resolution...

Firefly was produced by FOX, so SciFi or SyFy can't be blamed for it being canceled.  They have done a lot of other stupid things they should be blamed for though.

For some reason the SciFi channel liked to produce stupid movies like "Raptor Island" and worse things like the various giant snake movies.  Even with a low budget they could do a good story.  A good story on a low budget is better than a stupid story on a high budget.

On their high budget shows like "Battlestar Galactica" they do well on special effects but their stories are bad, especially after the 2nd season.  They substitute a good story for sex, violence, lots of emotion, and soap opera wierdness.  They even had a boxing episode to go with the Rocky movie and an episode about a killer doctor (who appeared out of nowhere) which looked like it should have been an episode of "Law and Order" or "CSI: Galactica."

Then there are shows that have nothing to do with scifi like a soap opera or wrestling.  Apparently the newtworks seem to think than a show with even a small element of the supernatural or aliens makes it "sci-fi" even if the show is obviously a different genre.  By the same criteria, "Rambo," "300," and "Starship Troopers" could be classified as "romance movies" since the main characters had girlfriends/wives and kissed them at least once. :D

The actress who played Inara is on the new "V" in what looks like the Diana role.

Off topic (as usual), but I've been really enjoying the SyFy series Sanctuary, Eureka and Warehouse 13. It's really nice to have some lighthearted adult TV that doesn't insult your intelligence. My wife loves the second two, too, which is a plus. I don't know why she doesn't like Sanctuary. Probably because she doesn't like the monster/critter themes.

It seems like there are a lot of really good shows actually making it to the airwaves these days. If they don't last... at least they got a chance and didn't get yanked after less than a handful of episodes like Firefly (Jericho comes to mind). Too bad Joss Whedon can't seem to find that groove again...

Yes, Firefly was canceled by FOX and the SCI-FI channel actually saw it as a classic and at very least played the reruns.

I think that Flash Gordon was a Brirtish TV series, like Dr Who. SCi FY didn't budget and make them, they just played them.

I too like Eureka. It is very popular with most everyone I speak with coast to coast.

The original V miniseries was awesome.  It was an allegory for the rise of Nazism. I thought it was cool how scientists were the main enemies of the aliens because they were the ones who could expose them.  Julie was the real leader of the resistance.  Donavan was a brave meathead.   The second miniseries jumped the shark with all of the mystical star child nonsense.  The regular series was hit or miss and I really hated the ending.  How did the leader go from cosmic Hitler to weird mystical guy.  It made no sense to me.

From the previews it looks like they are dropping the obvious Nazi stuff and focusing more on the power of propaganda and the cult of personality.  I hope it isn’t all political intrigue.  I like a good story but I expect action in my alien invasion movies.  I will also miss Jane Badler in her spandex uniform and big 80’s hair.

I didn't watch it...watched news shows on the Democrat losses in New Jersey and Virginia. I don't much like the repubicans but I really dislike the air-head democrats.

Too much and too many taxes, so people desperately cling to unions to get a better share of the lesser opportunites Dems create, and the whole cycle of dysfunction spins down like a flushed toilet. Look at Michigan, Califiornia, Detroit.

Anyway, the Sfi-Fy channel ran a day of the old TV series...Man, it was so...1980s.
And hokey. Marc Singer looked like an alien. They all, men and women have an unhealthy pre-occupation with hair spray. (personally, I perfered manly moouse. I think it was called "Man Moouse". I had it next to my bottle of "High" Karate on the shelf.)
