Great looking film. Maybe a German TV show? Because Dieter would have to have all kinds of high-teck, camera lifts and so forth.

AANNNND... a little credit should go to Ernesto Presas as Deiter was both brothers Remy and Ernesto to high black belt levels, then had politocal troubles with Ernesto in the end and went with Remy's Flag. I clearly recognize Ernesto-only drills in the film.

Dieter has the organizational and physical skills and smarts to carry Filipino Arnis and FMA to a more popular level.

This is typical, they leave out very important historical facts and then go on to present Stick as some kind of ultimate solution in combatives. I have written this numerous times on the net but here goes again, Lapu Lapu by all accounts was a Muslim Chief a Caliph, he was defending the Sulu Sultanate also known to some as Moroland form Christian invaders, this is a historical fact.

 If people want to mess round with sticks, I say go for it. Messing around with history is a separate matter all together. Even the greatest of all FMA practitioners, Sonny Umped, is well known to have credited the Moro. But you hardly ever hear of any western organization recognizing the true origins of what is now referred to as FMA.

Look- the main thought of the vidio was how they train-the modern training seemed very good to me-some good tactics to learn in a self defense situation with a stick or unarmed-i dont care about someone 40-50 years ago -its 2009 and as martial artist trainers we all need up to date tactics to pass on-the germans seem to  have it together-did you see how many were training When i take a seminar from Hock or the trainers in europe we dont talk about the past  we talk about now. If the founder of the styles picture is on the wall - so be it-recognize him/her and move on......i dont care if "his cousin/brother/best friend was supposed to be the founder- i want to protect myself and teach my students the same.. when your student is walking at night to her car and some one reached for her-it wont help if king tut was the founder-she has to fight for her life-now and continuous motion has to be implemented.

?? Wassup? Did we watch the same video? I guess I was just looking for cool stuff, not historical accuracy. But, whatever floats your boat.

Bottom line remains the same...when it's your ass on the line, well...it's your ass. I like to give credit where it's due, but my primary concern is to learn a lot of good stuff, pass it on to my students, and they can make up their own minds about what works best for them. I'm more concerned with tactics than history, more interested in training for modern day threats than worrying about tradition, and my focus is primarily on defeating the criminal or psychopath that endangers myself or my family (or others in my circle of influence) with physical harm. Just MNSHO, FWIW.

Seemed like a great group of folks. I wouldn't mind training with them myself. I'm more likely to end up in Germany than Nepal, so who knows?

Leaving out "important" "historical" "facts".  What the hell does that mean?  There are a million histories of the same event, and today, even with the internet, It's lost in translation.  What really is a historical fact?  If there were more history students, with "historical facts", then we'd probably have a different history today.

Also something to remember in Germany, for you guys that think that the stick ISN'T the be all of self defense, It IS!  We're talking air guns here man.  Basically, you are not allowed to defend yourself with proper tools, be it the knife, or the gun.  You have to use what is in the environment, like say,,,,a trash bag.  So, We're not in America, or Asia.  We're talking a country that has been disarmed for ages now.  And again, not addressing historical facts, doesn't  mean they are ignorant of the facts.  The overall objective was not to point out that Lapu Lapu was a Muslim, it was to point out that German's can kick ass with a stick like everyone else.  That was a great video!
