The point about Lapu Lapu is he was a Muslim Caliph who was defending Muslim land against Christian Invaders. To hear the story now coming from Christians in America and now others in Germany you get the idea they do not know anything about the true history of their art. Not only that they dont care and dont want to know anything as they only have one consideration and that is selling.

The entire system would be better off being called SMA or Sulu Martial Arts if they want to claim a linage to Lapu Lapu. Everyone who knows anything about FMA knows all the weapons originated in Mindanao, even Dan Insoantos own book lists all the weapons as Mindanao. How hypocritical is it for people like Marc Denny and other FMA Gurus to rant about Muslims and then rip off the history of Muslim fighters to sell their own versions of history.

Some people think I have a agenda here but that is not correct. I study steel and swords in Asia and have lived more than 7 years of my life in Asia. I consider myself a student of history and I'm only interested in historical facts, not make believe stories.

I see what you are saying.
I agree. And I am aware of the serious blend of Muslim Silat that is in Arnis/Kali. Which is why my PAC couse includes references to to it and to indonesia. (Inosanto talks about this all the time too.) I find it impossible NOT to see the blend.

Also so many of the stick techniques and drills come from Spain and Europe.

It is unpopular to pull back the FMA curtain for some, but there is more root information "backstage."

And, also is Marc Denny just ragging on extremists and not all Muslims in general? I mean he is a lawyer and should be able to make such a distinction.

Good book on all this...

If you remember my falling out with Marc Denny on his Dog Brothers board it was because he and his partner had one way of writing there in public and a completely separate way in their private forum "Warrior Talk" where they had people openly calling for the murder of  American Muslims and other outrageous nonsense.

The overall objective was not to point out that Lapu Lapu was a Muslim, it was to point out that German's can kick ass with a stick like everyone else.  That was a great video!

I'm sitting here at work and almost fell out of my chair laughing when I read this.  Great comment.

In 2007 my oldest son and I went to the DAV's (German Arnis Association) summer camp in Germany and had a great week of training.  I was also allowed to sit in one of their black belt and higher Lakan tests and they have a very solid group.  Through out the camp we went to different instructors (they offered a several classes at once on different subject matters) to learn all sorts of different material and I found the instruction excellent to say the least from all of the instructors, not just from the classes I took with Dieter.  The Germans can kick ass with a stick, plastic bag, belt, knife or whatever.

Great looking film. Maybe a German TV show? Because Dieter would have to have all kinds of high-teck, camera lifts and so forth.

AANNNND... a little credit should go to Ernesto Presas as Deiter was both brothers Remy and Ernesto to high black belt levels, then had politocal troubles with Ernesto in the end and went with Remy's Flag. I clearly recognize Ernesto-only drills in the film.

Dieter has the organizational and physical skills and smarts to carry Filipino Arnis and FMA to a more popular level.

I'll have to review the film again but I think the drills that were shot outside in the courtyards were Remy's TapiTapi drills material.  However the DAV teaches the material in a very principle based method so they do things more their way then really Ernesto or Remy.  It's hard to explain, but after having several discussions with Dieter (there and here) on his/their organization of material and where drills and things came from, they pull material from several people (GMs in the Philippines) with the root being Modern Arnis and Ernesto.

Since Dieter and the DAV continue to train and spend time with the GMs in the Philippines their material is going to look more like Ernesto's because Remy's looked so different here in the states.  But the root is still MA so to speak as it appears in the Philippines from those GMs.

Look forward to Monday I've already changed my schedule at work, see you in Denton.
