A SEALED mindset...
« on: December 14, 2009, 01:30:15 PM »

Martial business lesson...

Check out this SEALED MINDEST webpage.
First, it is advertised on the Blackwater Weekly newsletter. ("Blackwater" being mostly US Navy oriented.)

I thought...the only way this somewhat bad name would work/be somewhat cool, is that if it came from a SEAL. Sure enough it does.Navy SEAL. SEALED Mindest. Cool connection, and quickly explained, after a little hunting.

Check out the over all theme. Look at ALL the - what we call "Stock" photos - of people.
These photos are for sale. So many martial websites use stock or US Gov free military photos that make the webpage look so cool, yet are actually run by out-of-shape, knuckleheads.

The free lesson they offer? Is counting how many times a female dancer spins in a video clip. (Paying attention Arnold!? Yes! Dancing!) Yes! A lesson in paying attention?

Anyway review this webpage for the sales pitch and style. It'll learn ya' something.
Revew it for business marketing.

WHO ... are the selling to?
WHAT...are they selling?
WHERE... are you learning this?
WHEN...will you learn this?
HOW...will you learn it? How will they teach it?
WHY... should you learn this?

It seems to be a laptop correspondence course (so many stock photos of people with laptops?), which answers a lot of the above questions.

Also note in the “about us” section that classic sales pitch letter, that so many sales instructional companies, suggest you to do. This looks a bit different though than many of the others.

Hats off to this SEAL for his servive and accomplishements. He is a MAN among men.

Oh and by the way, anyone here foolish enough to fall for this and to pay money and join? Look in the mirror and review yourself. This pitch is pitched to a certain new, customer group that while is not us, might be...some of your customer goals? How do you think it works?

Not a bad free lesson IMO, and was very familiar from some training I had.

I always chuckle at the little marketing sayings like, "Don't wait to become a victim!"
I always get the feeling they want to make me the victim now. ;D Other than that I thought the site was well done, except for some drop offs in the audio. It was clean, professional and gave plenty of instruction in navigating around it and I would guess based on the site that the instruction would be the same. The narrative was hokey and sounded like a romance novel (not that I've read any), so it's being pitched towards women. Also the mention of his wife and it's lack of "rip the guys eyes out" techniques and focus on awareness is also a giveaway to it's audience.

BTW, I got the count wrong, I was over by 2. Dang distractions.

Here's another self defense page.

http://www.streetselfdefense.com/

This one has been around for years and is more of a classic sales letter pitch design.
Not many photos.
It seems to be old and a bit more martial artsy?

Does this appeal more to men?
Or martial artists?
Why?

Or is it just too old in design? I think it is a little old. The SEALED Mindest one is newer, cleaner and has a better message for new people than an older martial artsy one.

Imagine all the new people, inexperienced, seeking that common word "self defense"
and landing on this page?

Who would it work on?

I think it's obvious who the ad is aimed at...

If so, your feeling of insecurity is well founded because...
Most of what is being taught today in the typical martial arts school, self defense seminar and self defense video is...
Is close to useless in a real street attack!

The person this would appeal to would be coming from a very different place than who the SEALEDMIND ad would appeal to. Lot's of disgruntled and unsure traditional martial artists out there. Heck, I was one myself.

They seem like nice people...

and maybe even harmless.
