The US Army was training in hurting the enemy, before Larsen, with boxing and judo/wrestling.

When Larsen was allowed to teach H2H to the men of his Ranger unit he TAUGHT KARATE.
Almost everyday he trained them in KARATE.
The CO and or XO had men of different units fight each other before leaving on Fridays.
Larsen's men would hurt the men they fought and would win, most times.

Larsen developed a concept of instead of having men called out to fight on just Friday, why not have it so the Squads, the Platoons and the Battalions fought regularly and KNEW who the best fighters were.
(I don't know why " knowing who the best fighter is" has such a big influence Larsen, unless to develop a tough man hierarchy in the unit ?)

Now General McCrystal, who was then CO of the Ranger unit, liked Larsen's idea and uthorized Larsen to develop a method of H2H to test the men at any time, but also to REDUCE Injuries in doing so.
Larsen had been playing in GBJJ and went to the Gracie's and used their materials to form the basics of instruction.
So GBJJ was set on the path of being the  US Army Warrior Mindset Development program for the US Army.
It was not intended to be the H2H system, but to develop a Fight Mindset which Larsen feels is the best way to train all troops.
If they, the troops, are taught to engage, fight at the drop of a hat then they will willing enter into any conflict.

The idea that ALL fights go to the ground is to make the student/trainee believe that what they are going to learn is needed as it WILL BE part of ANY and ALL conflict situations.
The truth is that ALL Fights DO NOT end with both people on the ground.
Most fights end with One person on the ground.

For the Gracie's form of  Newaza/Ground Judo to work both fighters need to go to the ground,so FOR THEM,ALL Fights, both fighters, GO TO THE GROUND.
(That is because Helio was not Strong enough for Stand Up,and he perfected the GROUND GAME which became the family way)

Funny that Fairbairn,Sykes,O'Neil and others who founded the WWII combatives,(for British Commandos ,US Army Rangers, the FSS unit/Devils Brigade and the OSS/SOE),
All studied Jujitsu and Judo and attained rankings.
Why did they develop their simple yet brutal  STAND UP system ?
WHY did they not go with Judo and Jujitsu ground ?
The men listed all were higher ranked than the Rankings given the Gracie's under Madea.
The men listed developed their deadly form of H2H because it worked and going to the ground in combat was/is stupid.

Stupid then apparently is not stupid now.

Just make sure you follow Larsen's rule:
Pin and Hold your enemy until your friend arrives with his/her fire arm.
LOL,what a joke.
