web-hand
« on: May 31, 2010, 10:01:22 AM »

Hi guys.

I've been training webhand strikes lately, well since I've seen some of Nick's material. Are they really so effective? I can't exactly hit my training partner with one? O wait a minute have I just answered my own qeustion? ::)

A web hand strike is kind of a palm strike anyway, and has little use other than a strike to the throat. Face maybe? Under the nose? If you tried you could think up some other applications. So it gets little special attention. I include it in my Palm Strike Module.

You have to be aware about hitting and crushing the windpipe. And your thumb. The strike has to be centered so that your thumb or maybe wrist, won't get hyper-extended.

Thanks for the reply Hock, if the situation needs such a level of force is it not then just better to punch the throat with a fist?

Actually use of the web hand comes ito play when one is doiing a gun defense -using the web hand with thumb down to strike and wrap around  the slide of the pistol-
the other to do repeated strikes with fist,  palm, or even web (c grip) to throat.

Actually the web hand comes into play with almost every kind of grab, the thumb and ball of the thumb extending out to catch and squeeze.

I am using my web hand now to hold a delicious cup of ice tea.
