Although I have not held on it appears that it is a hell of a defensive tool against a knife, club, bottle or hand. Takes some space on your belt but looks like it is worth it.
Using the wpn as Napal Gurkis do it will do damage. I would imagine that when pulled out the opponent would get wide eyed at it-it boils down the to carrier of a weapon -if he/she uses it quickly it will work. I read where Snake blocker may be sending them to soldiers-if he is then he must have faith in it.
When you are in a knife stance-i.e. right foot forward-garrison knife in front -rear hand protecting face area it presents a formidable weapon .
(i am not a expert in knife fighting-just been training in use of one).
Thanks Adventurte for posting this info--WW

I rarely have time to get on here but it's nice to read different views on certain topics.
Craig Garrison is a super nice guy.  I do own a couple different trainers of his and a couple of his Garrison knives.  I introduced his knife and several other knives from other companies and designers to the troops training in Afghanistan.  I do not push my knife or other knives to the troops but I introduce several knives and other weapons to them; and we use them in our MCQC training routine/workouts.  The knife reminds me of the old cresant guards that are on the Shaolin weapons (which I have several antiques). I tell my students to own a variety of weapons to train with and get a feel for what each design can and can not do.  Some weapons have multiple functions and some are limited; but most weapons can still be used effectively in combat situations.   The odd shape and size of the Garrison knife make it hard to wear around in the civilian life but for combat it fits snug in its shealth, and it has a very quick draw with a downward snap of the wrist back (although it takes a little practice to put it back in since you have to angle it with one tip at a 45 degree angle in the right spot.  I let the troops decide if they liked it or not and all the folks that tried it out had positive things to say about it.

The blade has a perfect size for the throat attacks, and has a nice kill tactic if thrusted into the person's arteries coming from both sides of the neck without having to double slash like a regular blade.  The blade also had a nice defense for "defanging the snake" (attacking the weapon-bearing-limb).  The blade on the outside or inside can be sharpened to your liking (totalling 4 edges) and has a nice double edge slash if shapened to the extreme.   I agree this is not a knife for everyone but if you're like me, I like some variety in my knife training and in my knife collection.  And when it comes to sparring, the wide blade has a little advantage over a basic mid or smaller knife (skills being equal).   I'm just sheading a little light on the subject of exotic knives for combat use (not day-to-day-wear).  And it does fit well on a molly and can be placed in your chest level and pointed down for quick draw.
