Congrats! ;D

Unfortunately, I went down to a first set of 50 pushups this week from 54 last week. Dropped even more reps on my second and third sets as well.

Some days you're the windshield, some days you're the bug!

I guess this is going to take a little longer than I had originally planned.

I still felt the soreness in the morning that I decided not to work out until tonight which I did. All I did was solo training with the double end bag for 15 min. and jumped rope for 20 min. The 100 divebombers was one set. I did not fatigue until I hit my 70th rep. I had to rest in the position until I got my second wind. It is one of those advantages of having short, thick arms. According to the Gladiator Conditioning handbook, you can rest in the divebomber pushup on one arm while shaking off the other. But you can't let even one foot off the floor or even one knee on the floor. Otherwise, it's over and you have to start over again. How I was able to get through it, the handbook stated about proper breathing as well as focusing off the pain of a certain spot called "nickel and diming" as stated by Mark Hatmaker (how he comes up with these terms I have no idea=LOL). I still even felt soreness on other parts like my lower back, buttocks, legs, neck muscles, traps, biceps, triceps, and lats from the other exercises in the "8 to Hate". It is a  complete workout w/ maximum output of the functional muscles in minimum time w/ very little equipment, all done at home in my living room.

It's cool. You don't have to max out all the time as you can risk injury from overtraining. You can relax every now and then. Just progress little by little. You'll get there. I never dreamed I would even do one set of 100 divebomber pushups or what he calls them, full dands. Glad my last workout of the week is done. I can relax until Monday, which is always my 6-mile roadwork day. And, thanks for the congrats.

100 pushups is a great accomplishment but 100 divebombers is unreal!  That is something to shoot for. I'm on it!

Thought it was time for an update:

Still having problems getting past 60 consecutive pushups! I'm usually anywhere between 50 and 60 on any given day for my first set of pushups. My following sets are getting higher reps than previously, so at least I'm seeing an improvement in my recovery time, if nothing else.

For Mike Gillete and Rawhide:
I've also been working on my leg press. My goal has been to do three sets of single reps at 1000 lbs. by the 26th of February, 2011. Yesterday I completed my personal best of 908 lbs., so I'm on track to reach my goal weight on time. Tank tells me that's pretty light, but it seems heavy enough to me! (You're the Tank, Bubba, not me! ;D)

I was also able to do pullups earlier this month for the first time since my shoulder surgery in 2001. Finally! I was only able to do sets of two for five sets that first week, but I'm already up to four reps on my first couple of sets. I know that sounds lame, but I'm very excited about being able to finally do them again. I'm hoping to be able to do at least 10 reps for my first set by the 26th as well.

I turn 48 on the 26th of February and hope to achieve the following:

Pushups: 100 for the first set
Overhand Pullups: 10 for the first set
Leg Press: 1000 lbs, 3 single rep sets

Not an impressive set of goals; you won't see me on the cover of "Muscle and Fitness" anytime soon. No way I can keep up with Kentbob or VicMackey (and people at the gym call me crazy!), but I think I get points for hanging in there. IMHO, it's better to do what you can than to do nothing at all.

But, I have to admit, if I ever got the chance to workout with either one of those guys, I'd jump at the opportunity and give it my best shot! I'm not too proud to lose my cookies on the gym floor. ;D

Consider yourself updated!

I'm actually a contributing editor to that particular publication. As a matter of fact, check out this month's editorial on "10 Top Crockpot Recipes for Weasels."

Yummy!
