My sister likes this workout.  She feels it is very beneficial, and probably likes it for one of the same reasons I like the CrossFit main site.  You don't have to plan out what you're going to do, follow the plan laid out for you.

That said, I HATE PUSHUPS!  So boring!

I HATE PUSHUPS!  So boring!

Agreed! That being said, I've actually added pushups to my interval training and after 3 weeks, I'm doing 40 pushups for my first two sets instead of 30. This past Monday I completed 40, 40, 30, 30 and 30.

The best I've done since my shoulder surgery was 75 consecutive pushups. I really haven't bothered with pushups too much since then, just doing the mandatory number at whatever class I'm visiting or training in. But, about two months ago I was in a class and I felt myself getting fatigued by the third set of 25. Usually not a problem for me, so I decided to see what was up. Sure enough, somehow through my training program I had set myself up to do multiple sets of 25, but 30 pushups was about it for me. Bummer!

So, I decided to switch some things around and set my goal for 100 consecutive pushups. I think I'll keep with my own training program instead of switching to the one Hock posted, but it was pretty cool seeing I'm not the lone nut out there that thinks being able to do 100 pushups is a worthwhile endeavor.

Besides, now I don't have to worry about my training because the gym is packed; hardly anybody uses the TRX or the medicine balls and I've got plenty of room in that area of the gym to do my pushups.  I know the iron will miss me, but I'll be back! Should only take 8-12 weeks to get to 100 (barring any injuries!).

But yeah, Kentbob, I'll hate doing every single one of 'em! ;D

I've been doing this program for a couple of weeks now. I find the pushups boring as well, but it's fun to have the regimen to work with. Just for kicks, I bought the book.

He's also got the 200 squats and 100 crunches regimens on that site.

"8 to Hate" Functional Fitness Workouts
« Reply #4 on: August 23, 2010, 05:25:44 PM »

Today I Did:
-300 hindu squats (this one took me 15 min.)
-80 divebomber pushups
-neck bridge rolls, 50 forward and 50 backward, each followed by holding the bridge in place  for 2 min.
-10 variations of 20 gladiator crunches per variation
-4 pullup variations from a deadhang position, 12 reps each with a 10 sec. rest in between
-handgrip squeezes (50 reps followed by 1 min. hold)
-reverse handgrip squeezes (50 reps followed by 1-min. hold)
-200 jump squats

Note:Very little or no rest in between each exercise. No more than 10-20 sec. breather and some water before moving on to the next exercise. There is also no stretching or warm-up prior to the exercises and you only stretched to cool down afterwards when you do the "Grappler's Dozen".

holy crap!  ya'll are spending WAY  too much time doing the same exercise.  endurance is fine but only part of the game... I'd like to be able to do 100 push ups in a row but i'm going about it a different way.  work up to 40 or 50 in a row with 35lbs. on your back (or what...16kilos for you across the Pond) THAT should do you!  won't take 15 freaking minutes and you'll be stronger quicker...!  my .02....

I've tried that before and it worked pretty good. But the weights in the front of my weight vest drag the ground too much when I'm doing push ups. No big deal; it just aggravates me! I need to buy me a better (and heavier) weight vest, but I just haven't got around to it.

So, until I do, I'll just do the reps. I just added the push ups to my interval routine; doesn't really take up much more time.

There is a show here called the Dragons den (canadain version of shark tank). There were two brothers that came on and had invented a press up machine, which in essense loaded weight on to the back in increments> seemed like a good idea to me. They got no money and six months later were arrested for dealing in coke and firearms!

I pretty much accomplished the maximum reps for each of the exercises except the divebombers, which I was 20 reps short of 100. Despite that, I still am proud that I went past my previous number of 69 reps. Although it is my off-day today from working out, I am still sore all over from shocking my muscles doing those max reps for each exercise. The number of reps that I did yesterday morning for each "8 to Hate" exercise is considered advanced level or close to it. Up until that point, I was only doing them at intermediate level reps and combining them with the 12X12 Sandbag Workout (I use 40 lbs.) and then the "Grappler's Dozen" stretching/cool-down session afterwards. And tomorrow, I got some road work to do too for 5 miles with some hill sprints and backwards runs in between.

Even though I can do pullups too (between 6-15 reps per set) too, I like pushups much better since I can do more than pullups (most I ever did was 130 pushups and that was in my high school wrestling days and Navy boot camp when I was 155-158 lbs/most pushups I can ever do now is 87 reps and again, not talking about divebomber pushups).

gladiator crunches

They are just nothing more than different variations of crunches designed to develop endurance/toughness in your abs/hip flexors that you use for your guard position or when absorbing strikes to your midsection. It's not going to make you have bodybuilder abs but it does also help develop mental toughness when doing them too. And, no rest in between 10 variations of doing 20 reps per variation.

They said I can add extra weight when doing each exercise if it gets too easy to do the max reps. But I am not allowed to sacrifice reps and rest longer just because of added weight from the weight vest. Because of that, I can only add slightly more weight, but w/ caution.
