One of the problems as i see it is=the vast majority of buyers are the younger generation who are looking for "Martial Arts"-so they go to a mag like this-then they find You tube and search that-and ignore BB-on the flip side are the true martia artists who are older and have gone through teaching -studying- and unless they know of the writers who are
really petty good-they dont buy the mag. Lastly we have MMA,Kung Fu,Muay thai, boxing
all of which are on the market-lots to choose from on the book shelf..I just dont think it will ever get back to the top. JMHO also- WW

I agree with that. I think it has to find it's niche and build from there as I just don't see a need for a general purpose MA magazine anymore.

I just thought of another problem-BB forgets the Ladies-its 99% a mens mag-might help if they featured a womens section-plus not many women even know what BB mag is.
It might help to put a ad in womens mags-?????? WW

Meredith Gold used to have a column for women.  In fact, she used to do articles for them regularly, but my guess would be she became as disgusted as everyone else by the trash they were peddling and deserted a sinking ship.

I see Mere all the time.

She and Belzer still teach. They reach out to a lot of people and women that need help.

She could no longer stand the attitude of Black Belt and left.

Mere has like a zero tolerance for pretending that martial arts are self defense. She does martial arts but likes them in proper catagories. She does not the sales pitch that she sees a lot that this or that art move or movement is self defense.

I share this also, but she is a strong, vocal advocate of that.

If BB would just pick up exactly where CQC Magazine, published by Hock and Jane, then they would have a shot at being successful.  That was the best martial arts magazine ever produced.  There has to be a deep foundation of expertise, and long range articles that cover a theme over a few issues.  Expert opinions, good shots.  All in all, CQCMag was a fine production, and BB would be smart to purchase the old ones, integrate the style and content, and link the paper mag to a site that can develop the online presence to the next level of readership.

Anyway,
No magazine can be successful without ARNOLD making an appearance.  What were they thinking?

I think the last two MA magazines I purchased on a regular basis were JAMA and CFA. Both tended to be well written with articles that BB wouldn't touch. I stopped doing traditional martial arts years ago but always enjoyed seeing what some were doing with them.
