Great story.

I had a detective Sgt in the Army who, well, wasnt much a detective or a leader but he'd picked up some catch phrases along the way. One was, if you worked every simple theft as if it were a triple homicide, a lot more cases would be solved.

The line had a lasting effect, as I still remember the line. The victim went the "extra yard" to work her own case from an emotional standpoint, something a detective with a caseload, and probably a burned-out soul, can't always do.
