From Alex France...longtime contact for Ernesto

I just received a call from the Presas family. It is my sorrowful duty to announce to all Kombatan practitioners, all IPMAF members, and all my fellow FMA practitioners, that Great Grandmaster Ernesto Amador Presas passed away in his sleep today in Manila (Nov. 1, 2010 in the Philippines, October 31 here in the States). I spoke with Mercy (Mrs. Presas). All she can say right now is that GGM's body will be brought back to Hinigaran. I will announce dates and times as funeral arrangements are made.

To my teacher, my mentor, and my friend, Thank you for all you've done for me, for our people, and for martial art practitioners the world over.

I spoke with Ernesto on the phone, the last time in 2007. And with others in late 2007, when I asked how Ernesto was doing, they said he was just fine.

But, in late 2008 he has a heart attack and was hospitalized for two weeks in Manila. When I look at the 2009 video clip in Poland, I could see he was not at all his former self.

I really enjoyed my training with GM Ernesto, thanks Hock for introducing me to him.  Both GMs Remy and Ernesto changed the course of my FMA training.

My condolences to his family and the instructors under him, he will be missed.

As Mark and Jeff and many old-timers know - Ernesto (and Remy) were SERIOUSLY influential in everything we did in 1980s and 90s and 00s.

Prayers go out for Ernesto a true warrior and badass until the very end.

I  learned a lot from both, it was a pleasure to experience both.  The roots of my martial arts are Filipino.  The heart of my FMA is Presas.

Not only artist, but fighter.    They differentiated between the art an the fighting.   Let God sort them out after they decide to fight.


I raise a glass to both.   We'll have  chance to tell stories over whiskey, beer and of course, cartoons.

If cartoons doesn't make sense, you need to hear the stories.
