Police dig up internet dirt on recruits
« on: November 12, 2010, 08:58:39 AM »

Law enforcement agencies are digging deep into the social media accounts of applicants, requesting that candidates sign waivers allowing investigators access to their Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, Twitter and other personal spaces.

Hock,
I think that this is a case of like it or not, all employers are checking FaceBook.
People say they do this and that, but their FaceBook page often tells another story.
In reality if they are checking for criminal behaviour, you only have a record if you have been caught. I'm sure there's some model employees out there who have committed serious crimes, but have got away with it. I have a criminal record and have never hidden the fact from anybody. I got mixed up in something and did some time in prison.

I have been in many situations since where people have asked me to work for them etc without doing any sort of background check on me. I explain that they should, as very few people are as honest about these thing's as I am.

This has been a standard practice up here for a few years now. Get one of your interviews and they will take you to a computer, ask you to pull up your myspace, face book etc and they go through it. No biggie
