True Grit
« on: November 24, 2010, 09:13:33 AM »

Well I have mixed feelings about this one . Remaking  a John Wayne classic. Why I guess is my first question. Trailers look good. Jeff Bridges as Rooster and Matt Damon as the Texas Ranger. I have both Roosters on DVD. Two of my personal favorites. Is it just that writers cant write anymore or have run out of imagination. Everyone seems to be doing remakes. Do you think in 15 years someone is going to say mmmmmm lets remake Star Wars. Some movies you just cant and should not. I think True Grit is one of them, But too I guess they are counting on the fact thats most people under 35-40 don't even know about the original. I'm 40. if it wasn't for my father watching it when I was younger, I most likely would have never seen it.

And if thats not bad enough, here is one for Hock: Have Gun Will Travel staring the rapper Eminem. Sweet Jeese. That ought to be good for a Twitter.

Hope you right about Paladin. There is and should only be one. watching the trailers for True Grit, noticed that even the dialog is almost word for word. What easy money for these people. The plots done, the settings, story line, script. All you have to do is cast and film. Damn shame. Hell I could do that.  Or you can just do it in anima, then all you need is voice overs.

The really followed the book. The book is excellent and complete by itself. The old movie and this new one are following the book. Even the dialogue of the book. Which is unusual. Usually they butcher books.

Love that scene. Years back I bought a winchester 44mag(trails end). Got the firing ring or loop put on it. Just like John Wayne and Chuck Connors. nearly split my head open the first time I tried to swing it. My friend laughed and reminded me that both John and Chuck were over 6' and had much longer arms. I can do it really well now. Can also do the Riffleman rapid fire if I use the 44 specials then on the last shot swing it around. But damn its hard to do on the horse. My horse doesn't care about the noise, its just keeping the rains and balance in play. Neighbors look at me sort of funny too. Wife asked me if that was in any of Hocks gun dvds, and gave me that "what the hell are you doing now" look. 40 going on 16, Got to have fun.

We absolutely, positively must have video of this. Cell phone footage is acceptable, but it must be filmed.

Iv got some pics somewhere on the computer. On horse back I can shoot and hit my pond, but beyond that my accuracy suffers greatly lol. Then when my horse doesn't feel the reins  he goes to grazing. There is a guy on youtube that can really shoot from the hip and hit shit. Which brings up the question of: Did the calvery have a class on shooting from a moving horse, back in the days. Maybe there gun level 8 or something. Its really hard. Even on a fluffy Paso Fino which are like the Lexus of horses, as far as a smooth ride goes. talk about friendly fire or lasering your guys. Real easy to do on horse back in groups.

I also try shooting on the move when I'm mowing on the brush hog. Try to hit turtles when I go by the pond. Tractor is smoother then the horse and its still hard to get sights on anything, with the jerking of the terrain and all

Shifty Joe needs to pay some rent for bedding down. Then I'll stop shooting at him when I mow. Not that he has anything to worry about. Usually don't get but within 3 feet on the move. Did shoot my tire out that holds up my fountain pump. Damn Turtles.

Maybe I can hire Dux to go after him. OOOPs, did I say that. Well. Mr Fish, Turtles. Just thought.... never mind.

Theaters here are packed.
They only had front row seats, which is bad for your neck, and bad in general.
Will wait until weekdays next week.

Last year I tried to see Sherlock Holmes on Christmas Day. PACKED! Turned away

In the 1970s, while in Korea, I journeyed into a large city there to see the 70s version of King Kong (with Jeff Bridges coincidentally) and they only had front row seats. It was such a trip we took the seats. It was in English with Korean subtitles. MAN! It was terrible. I swore never again to sit that close. But that was one big monkey when you sit down front at his feet.

And of course, there is one king Kong but there is only one Jessica Lange.

Only One. Only one. Only one. (how did I get on this subject?)

Oh well.
Merry Christmas
