A brave holidaymaker needed 178 stitches to save his arm after it was virtually severed as he tackled a Samuri sword wielding maniac.
Gary Wainwright, 53, tried to stop the man with a chair when he began attacking staff. The man was earlyer thrown out of the Tenerife bar. The blows from the sword broke Gary's arm in four places and severed the main artery. Friends used a tourniquet to stop him bleeding to death, before doctors managed to reattach his arm. Cafe boss Gary, from Sheffield was celebrating the New Year in the resort of Playa Paraiso. Police are still hunting for the attacker.
