Do you really want to say you knife-fight?

I don't remember if it was here or elsewhere, but early on in my CQC studies I was referred to a couple of Marc MacYoung articles on "knife-fighting."  I use them as part of my own curriculum now, as a beginning point for discussing the moral/legal/ethical questions with my students.

Whiskey Jack-I will not get into the political discussion but I will say there is a lot of useful information in what you posted-I particulary liked what was said about Hell and opening the door to look in to it.......
I have been working on knife defenses lately-sense I never have been stabbed its hard to imagine what it really would feel like to be cut or worse-training in a martial arts school is not like being threatened by a
knifer in the street- no matter how reolistic it is. We work on a opponent comming at you under stressfull conditions but i dont think its the same
but--if nothing else one gets a basic idea of defenses-and hopefully be abole to react when it is real. R/S WW

Yep, I hesitated to bring him up since I've gotten the feeling here and elsewhere that...politics...surround the guy.

I have no "politics" with him. We've met years ago. He is very..."windy" and off the market place for several reasons I will not discuss. Some people remember his very old Paladin books and surf into his webpage.

In response to WhiteWolf - Marc MacYoung currently lives th Colorado Springs, Colorado area.  On occasion, he has a table at one of the local gun shows.

Macyoung has a bunch of vids and books through Paladin. Years ago I wondered if he was legit, but I guess he is. His online forum is almost a cult. His main goal over the recent years seems to be to expose the fantasy of self defense training and particualrly weapons trainiing. In other words you're pretty much an naive idiot if your not "in the life" and you do this stuff . Some of his thoughts ring true.

I used to read a  lot of his comments-some did make sense to me at the time-i think its like all self defense comments-one has to decifer the good from the not so good-and what will work for you in a real altercation
As i travel through the knife martial art training I do see that I first look at the instructor-if he makes wild out of the world techniques that are not simple ,fast, brutel-i disregard them. JMHO ww

Here are clips from Penn and Teller BS on Martial Arts:
McYoung can be found in these clips,(much of the show is funny and rings true)

I have read some of Marc's materials and I like some of what he has to say,and some I do not care for.

Through the years of training I have used Bruce Lee's saying,Take what is useful and discard the rest, that is the best advice, because you can always learn something new from anyone, you do not have to adopt everything one person says.
Always search, train, refine, add and subtract what works for you.

JimH-basically what i was saying-to add a little I have listened to many instructors who have a good reputation and teach pretty good stuff-but i still listen carefully and if it dont ring true for my circumstances (its thier seminar so i would not embarass them)  I listen but dont go along with it. -WW

I have nothing but the utmost respect for him. And his classic DVD, "Street Safe" still has the same relevence today as it did years ago.
