What's unreal about simulated ammo
« on: November 07, 2011, 12:14:07 PM »

"...We have blown out lights, dented cars and broken windows and mirrors. When you introduce gas-powered guns then you have worries about the neighbors, your pick-up truck and all things that shatter, break, scream and howl. The gas guns at least give you some level of explosive sound and a little wave of shock when you are on the wrong end..."

For the issue of training weapons not penetrating walls, one seminar I took used sheets of plastic (large sheets of black trash bag material) to form the "walls" of the "house" and the paintballs easily penetrated the plastic.

I don't know if this was intentional or if they just wanted something cheaper than the usual blue tarps.

Jay Cooper says on facebook:

Ironically on the range I am at best an average shot (and that is me being generous to myself!)....when the sim training was done in my dept I was one of the top performers. There really is no substitute for firing at a live quarry who is firing back!

Jay that is interesting and not too unusual really. Deep down everyone knows this truth, but can't bring it our to training doctrine. The painful truth is most range masters/bosses/instructors are sinple not creative enough to organize such training. And/or their entire livelihoods are based on the classic range model, and altering that is financial trouble. (and Jay, I too, as the years pile on, have become just a very "average shot" also.
