What good in Tn is not good in NYC
« on: December 29, 2011, 04:30:23 PM »

I just read that a tourist visiting from tn (who had a conceled wpn permit)
told security at the entrance to the 911 memorial site  that she had a pistol and thought she could store it while on site was arrested for carrying a conceled weapon. She may face a prison sentance. Sorry for her to say the least..(Having some difficulty putting the article here ).
Dont carry in NYC folks.  Its a no no. Only criminals can carry.... WW

A permit to carry in NYC can only be issued by the Police Commissioner and is good until revoked. I got mine about 20 years ago. Still have it. Only one weapon is permitted. Got it when my Dad was in law enforcement. The rest of NY is a pain in the butt depending on what county you live in

See, this is what I don't get. In the US you have the right to arm. But not in all of states of the US? or in some states but not some cities, or D.C , how does this work?

States have a way to tweek around the 2nd amendment, prohibiting this, that or the other. You can own a gun in your home. You have a right to own a gun...in your home...but outside the home? The tweeking begins. State by state...with local cities with weird additions/subtractions...

Governments "interpret" the Constitution so say what they want it to say.  When various governments pass laws that are clearly unConstitutional, it takes the Supreme Court to rule whether it is Constitutional or not.  The problem is, they rule based on their ideology rather than what the text says.

A lot of this is due to the party system, something George Washington warned against in his Farewell address.  Politicians are loyal to their parties, not to their States or districts.  That changes the USA from a union of states into a system ruled by two parties that trancend the various states.

To add a litle to this-when i was working in Newark NJ (escorting nurses into the high crime areas) I had to go in front of a county judge and explain why I needed to be armed. At first the judge said a post man goes the same places i do and is not armed. I replied-yes but he goes to the
mail box-I take the nurse up 9-10 flights inside the housing project and she is carrying various drugs with her. Luckly he agreed and i got the carry permit. Although i never took the weapon out I was glad i was carrying. WW

That sucks, but part of being a responsible firearms owner and carrier is knowing the local laws and ordinances ahead of time.  Ignorance of the law is still no excuse.

There is no excuse for violating the Constitution.

Of course a citizen should follow shuch laws to keep from being punished, just like it is a good idea to hand over your money when the Mob comes over and demands protection money.

If the jurors are not idiots or commies they'd use jury nullification in this case.

Her Constitutional rights have not been violated, not in the slightest.

I assume that stands for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.  NYC didn't tell her she couldn't have a gun, or that she couldn't carry one.  The law says she can't carry one in NYC without a permit specifically from NYC.  Back in her home state of Tennessee it's obviously fine, and she obviously has no problem with firearms there.  Thus, her rights have not been infringed upon.  If she were a citizen of NYC, I would feel a little differently.
