It was written that Ventura said he served in a SEAL Reserve unit but much has been written in which those close to him,and those who investigated him and called him out say he only served in UDT 12.
Here is Ventura's aide when he was Governor stating that Ventura always tries to correct people to say he was UDT only, never a SEAL.
In a December 14th interview with Minnesota Public Radio, Wodele assured listeners that Ventura never tries to mislead reporters or the public, and that he's careful to equivocate whenever referring to himself as a SEAL.
MPR: Ventura's spokesman, John Wodele, confirms Ventura was in the UDT's, and he says the Governor has never tried to convince people otherwise.
Wodele: If you travel with the governor and spend any amount of time with him, he is very forthcoming and accurate in terms of his relationship with the United States Navy. He talks about the fact that he was in the Underwater Demolition Team. In fact, he has corrected me in the past.
Let's see Ventura's wikipedia says he did 4 years active duty and two years reserve, that was the full contract time of 6 years at that time.
He served from 69-73 in UDT,then two years reserve duty with ST1.
It also says that after active duty he went to North Hennipen College, which is in Minnesota.
So if he did two years in ST1 reserves then he did so in California and or Hawaii, either one is a trip from Minnesota so we can rule that out.
In Febuary of 1974, the US Navy decided to form a reserve Special Warfare unit to augment their active duty counterparts. The group consisted of only about a dozen volunteers. The Volunteers had been Vietnam and Korea Veterans who didn't want to stop training but for whatever reason had been taken off active duty. They were given the name Naval Reserve UDT 119. In 1974 the group held it's weekend meetings at the Naval Special Warfare Center in Coronado.
(again a long way to travel for a weekend drill)
Also since Ventura was trained as a UDT specialist and NOT a SEAL and he never served on a SEAL Team to be a SEAL prior to the reserves, then being assigned to ST1 Reserves,if he was ,did not make /qualify him to be or call himself a SEAL.
(I doubt if he served any time at all with an ST1 reserve unit as he was done with active duty,so he was no obligated to attend any training)
