The reason you don't see big, strong slow guys is because they are destroyed before they can get their mass in motion. Speed is not essential soley because you can't catch the guy. Wneb a vack goes off tackle, your not worried about catching him. Its powere against power and big strong SLOW guys don't hack it!

Then why are tight ends and fullbacks usually slower than say a wide recveiver? Trade off power for speed. Its a continuum. They are slower in order to be more powerful. SLOW relative to whom? That's the question...
Alex Barron at Florida State runs the 40 in 4.83 at 320 pounds. He's obviously more powerful than a wide receiver who runs 4.45 at 210. The extra mass means more power even though he runs a slower time. Which one hurts more when they hit you, you think?

[/quote Let me just say this and i'm done. A 4.8 40 is not an 8 second 40. This is still is good accelleration.. All i am saying is that if you can't accellerate your mass quickly enough, you don't have that much powerat the point of impact. Of course there is a trade off and an ideal point where mass and accelleration produce optimum power. That is simple physics. Also, as any trainer and coach knows you can train for strength and size but only to a very limited degree speed and accelleration. Why do you think African Americans make up 85% of NFL defensive starters. Simply because they are quicker therofore creat more power within the 5-10 yards contact is made(ON average) not neccessarily bigger or stronger. Enough said.
