Title: Night Sights – yea or nay?
Post by: Virgil on October 12, 2005, 02:12:19 PM
Hey guys,
I know many good shooters who swear by them, but I've also heard the occasional guy (I'm thinking particularly about a guy who was headed to Iraq and said he wanted no light signature) who doesn't think they're God's gift to handgunning.  Obviously glowing sights are more visible in the dark, but I wonder how tactically useful it is; how much difference might it make to get a really clear sight picture on a target that is itself obscured?
Do you like night sights on your handguns?

Love them in combination with a good flashlight......

The are pointing vertical in your holster....at about 60 degree when you hold it....and the sights face your head when you are shooting....I don't see the problem....it's a glow rather than a light.
God's gift, probably not....another good useful tool....yep.

I like them on my both my front and rear sights. You never know when your eyesight (I'm slightly myopic) deteriorates as you grow older. In the future, I plan on having tritium sights installed on both my handguns. The only contraint is a career, in which you can be recalled anytime (ex.= New Orleans). Until then, I apply fluorescent paint on my sights, which only works when exposed to some light source. Afterwards, it just darkens.

(Oh, we call them "Ray Charles" sights because they are so bright whether it is day or night that Ray Charles could see them from the grave)

I thought that if went with night sights I would probably go with just the front sight rather than a full set . . . but maybe I'm just being cheap!  :)
