Title: "Size of my Expanable Baton?"
Post by: rutleddc on February 20, 2008, 02:24:35 PM
I am currently in training to be a reserve deputy sheriff and am tasked with purchasing some of my own equipment. I am required to get a collapsible 21 or 26 inch baton, with 26 inch recommended. I am planning to purchase an ASP baton as recommended in this forum.

My question: I am 5'6" with short arms but am quite muscular in build despite my age of 50 years. I plan to get the 26 inch baton at this point. Should I consider the 21 inch baton because of my size? Also, which versions are best?

Thanks in advance for your input.  ;D

As an ASP Instructor I would suggest trying the 21 and 26, and then decide. In my experience for your height the 21 would be a better choice. With the ASP itís really about technique over strength. So a highly proficient user can generate more power with a shorter baton then a big strong person using muscle and a long baton. Hope this helps.

My expandable baton is bigger than yours ;)  They also have pills to make your baton expand for longer periods of time.  If your baton expands for longer than four hours, tell a doctor.  Hell, I'd tell everyone!!
