Title: Some new training...for some!
Post by: whitewolf on August 31, 2011, 06:06:35 AM
Last night was ausome-a SSgt on leave from Afganistan-stopped by and worked with us on CATCH wrestling-I have never seen that and he showed some basic techniques to work with against a BJJ type
how to do a version of the figure four wrist lock where you put presure on the elbow/upper wrist and a ankle break-when he completes the tour he will be working on this type with us-our school is a hybrid Krav Maga
school for sure -Sambo, Catch, KM=makes for a well rounded education
in self protection-Anyone out there worked with Catch at all? WW

Canuk-guess thats what you call it. From what i understand its been aound awhile-This instuctor said the beginnings of Pro wrestling years ago evolved from some of this stuff-
From all the studying i have been doing over the past few years I do know that much of what is taught in quote unquote "Martial Arts self defense classes" is not very effective. Its "contract"-uniform-etc-one has to search out what is (in my opinion) good and what is poor and ignore the poor. Guess i am rambling-sorry- take care  WW

Canuk-after some searching i found this one-I am not a wrestler but when watching this i saw some good techniques in there-looked like face crank, getting out of a hold , wrist lock, etc-
What the SSgt was showing us  was a few of the cripplig techniques.

Probably anyone who has done "Mixed Martial Arts" circa 1980s up to today, as been doing catch whether they realize it or not.

Hock

Oddly enough, it is still relatively unknown. Most MMA schools and students are quite happy with BJJ. We have been doing Catch or Submission Wrestling here for years, and I'm still amazed at how well we do at local and national grappling tournaments. They just don't know what we are doing to them.
