Marcinko's Knife Fight in Red Cell!
« on: January 07, 2006, 09:56:16 AM »

Has anybody read Dick Marcinkoís book Red Cell?  There is a knife fight described in the book where he uses a chair to create space a then draws a small folder and stabs the bad guy when his openings arise.  If you havenít read it then you should because although he had to tell it as fiction, apparently many of the incidents are true to life.  It is chock full of little technical details and mindset material that is very useful.

I also just saw a DVD with some of the real video footage from Demo Dick & his Red Cell team kicking some Admiralís arse amongst other eye opening clips that reveal just how crap the security is for our military installations around the world.  Check it out if you can!

Ciao

Great Action Book (I had forgot about the knife fight). I also found the video interesting as well. From reading "Demo Dicks' biography Rogue Warrior (I think) - his success at breaking into so-called secure bases is what got him cross-wise with brass and pushed him further up @#$$ creek without the ...so-called paddle. Has a decent website for those that want to know more

Ref Rougue's webpage...

Is pretty stagnant.
His old radio show is off the air I think.
They are advertising old news on the right side, like Brown to be nominated.

My bet is that Dick and his SOS Temps? Are very, very busy on the other side of the world, these days...

I've read all of Demo Dick's books, except for the newest one, called Vengeance. I have every one of his books in hardback, and they are kick-ass. After he wrote his autobiography, his subsequent books are fiction. Like Mr. Hubbard said, there's a lot of mindset passages in his books. Some might call it macho-machismo bullshit, but when you are in a can't-back-down situation, it helps. I had forgotten about the knife fight, but, yes, there are several places in his books where he and his merry men go at it against the bad guys with knives, and whatever they could find at the time. Good stuff, it was an education to read. Guess I'll head to the bookstore now. ;D

And don't forget, all of his books are great training manuals for how to be a true leader instead of a manager.  He even published "Leadership Principles of the Rogue Warrior" which I believe was a NYT best seller for business books.

And damn good training motivation, too....

Leadeships Secrets of the Rogue Warrior is a good read and is a no nonsense leadership manual. The book is based around the famous Rogue Warrior Ten Commandments below. Another good book in that vein that may still be available is Patton's Principles. I wasn't written by the general but was distilled from his leadership maxims. An intersting side note to the Marcinko discussion is from Mike Walsh's book Seal! where Walsh describes his Seal team 6 interview, Walsh did not have a favorable impression of Demo Dick and his team to say the least.

1. I am the War Lord and the wrathful God of Combat
and I will always lead you from the front, not the rear.

2. I will treat you all alike
just like #%@.

3. Thou shalt do nothing I will not do first,
and thus will you be created Warriors in My deadly image.

4. I shall punish thy bodies
because the more though sweatest in training,
the less thou bleedest in combat.

5. Indeed, if thou hurteth in thy efforts
and thou suffer painful dings,
the thou art Doing it Right.

6. Thou hast not to like it
thou hast just to do it.

7. Thou shalt Keep it Simple, Stupid.

8. Thou shalt never assume.

9. Verily, thou art not paid for thy methods,
but for thy results, by which meaneth
thou shalt kill thine enemy
by any means available before he killeth you.

10. Thou shalt, in the Warriors Mind and Soul,
always remember My ultimate and final Commandment:
There Are No Rules -- Thou Shalt Win at All Cost.

I've had a typed paper based on the 10 commandments I copied from that borrowed book at my previous ship's library for 3 yrs. now. One is hanging in my room and the other one is taped inside the door of my locker at work.
