Steve Grody, anyone heard of him?
« on: March 19, 2010, 05:14:28 AM »

I came across a few clips of him on youtube.  I mean, it seems like standard JKD/Kali fare, but maybe taught in a way I hadn't seen before?  I don't know, it looks a little different to me.  Maybe more art, and less stripped down.  Any comments?  Anyone trained with him, or anything?

Bio of Mr Brody from his site:
http://stevegrody.blogspot.com/2009/03/bio.html

My training began in 1973 with Dao Dan Pai, a traditional southern Chinese Daoist system which I learned under Share K. Lew from China.

Jun Fan - Jeet Kune Do. I studied under Dan Inosanto for thirteen non-stop years (1979 to 1992) and became the primary substitute at his academy from '85 to '90 when he had to be away.

Inosanto Kali, a combination of twenty five Filipino systems including the highly effective LaCoste-Inosanto empty hand methods which was taught at Guro Inosanto's academies. I assisted and was substitute instructor for these classes as well.

Lameco Eskrima. I was extremely fortunate to study privately with the founder of the system, Punong Guro Edgar Sulite from 1990 until his untimely death in 1997.

Steve was actually an early Vunak guy and is in some of the original Panther Series tapes.  There was a PFS tape that was sold as a long lost PFS session, which is basically Paul teaching a class.  Grody is in the class along with Mark Deny of Dog Bros fame.  Lot's a classic vintage Vunak on that one.

Was never big in the 1980s or 90s.
Had a rare few students. Did a rare few seminars.

Once in a rare "blue moon" his old name surfaces in the exact context as here, "Now, who was this guy?"

I saw him at some seminars in the early 90s as a participant.   never really knew him.

Wow, those videos are a real blast from the past. Back then it seemed each JKD technique had a half an hour of explanation that went along with it.
