Is this the way to go? I'm looking for some sound ways to employ my palm heel strikes in self defence.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

watch some of Bas Ruten knockouts and you will see his method of employment/delivery of knockouts from open hand strikes/palm heels.

One example:

Remember this is Bas ,so everyone would have a different delivery, power, range and angle, train it ,and all strikes as best you can.

NelJohn, two years ago you asked similar questions on the palm heel.
Did you ever use any of the info given by the members here to develop a tool box of strikes ?
Knowledge is good but training for employment is what self protetction is all about.
start smacking a bob or Heavy bag,and learn body employment to deliver real power.

JimH yes I did...I am however concerned that for some reason I'll be tempted to punch with the closed hand when facing a huge guy. I don't know why this is. I have had to defend myself since then, and have had a great success with the palm strike, but I don't know why I need people with more experience to reiterate the effectiveness of the strike...Me being silly I guess.
I have been away from the forum, but am know back and ready to continue my learning... Thanks to all for your patience with me and my questions

You will resort to doing that which you train most.
If you have spent a lot of time striking with a closed fist then the closed fist is what you will go to as the most known response the brain thinks of .
If you want to use the open hand strikes, like a palm heel, then you must train it MORE than closed fist.
